I was fired from my job last fall. It sucked. I was making good money, had strong relationships with my coworkers, and was good at what I did. I felt embarrassed and disposable. For the first time in years, I had no plan. No title. No direction. I got another job as a server/bartender at a different restaurant, but it’s tough. I have no connections there, make less money, and feel like I’m back at square one.

BUT I’ve used that dissatisfaction to light a fire under me. It forced me to stop talking about “one day” and actually start building something of my own. Since starting the new job, I’ve focused on building better habits, creating more content, and actively working towards something I’m proud of.

6 steps I’m Following👇🏻

If you have ADHD and goal-setting feels like pulling teeth
Try this out (screenshot it) 📸

1️⃣ Stop setting goals for “future-you”

Your brain only understands “right now” or “nope-not-now”. 😂
Setting a 6-month goal for ADHD is like ordering motivation on Temu… with no tracking number and no hope it will show up

2️⃣ Switch from outcome goals to identity goals

“I’m losing 30 lbs” ❌
“I’m someone who moves daily” ✅
“I got that dog in me” ✅
Our ADHD brains love structure. Identities are structure.
Willpower is a scam !!!

3️⃣ Shrink the goal until it feels stupid simple

Your goal shouldn’t be “work out.”
Your goal should be “put on shoes.”
If your goal requires a personality change, it’s too big.

4️⃣ Track showing up, not results

Did you show up? Congrats. You win.
ADHD brains quit when the scoreboard updates too slowly.

5️⃣ Add dopamine on purpose

Music. Novelty. Rewards. Streaks.
Raw-dogging fitness with discipline is for normal people.
Gamify things, find ways to make stuff fun to do.

6️⃣ Stop trying to be perfect.

Miss a day? Continue anyway.
Missing one day isn’t failure.
Quitting because of it is.
One bad day doesn’t delete the save file.

ADHD doesn’t need more motivation.
It needs better systems.

Identity.
Tiny step.
Dopamine hit.
repeat 🔁

We’re all still kids trying to make sense of a world that moves too fast. Some of us just learned to hold on a little better.

Growing up isn’t about having it all figured out. It’s about staying on the ride when things get a little crazy.

If you’re still spinning… you’re not alone.

I was diagnosed with ADHD earlier this week.

Looking back, it makes a lot of sense. I’ve always struggled with consistency, losing things, and feeling mentally all over the place. The only times I’ve felt like my best self were when I had structure and solid routines in place.

Even on normal days like this, small decisions can feel weirdly overwhelming. That’s why trying to build good habits and creating structure has always mattered so much to me.

Now that I know whats going on inside of me, I’m curious to see what changes. Not just with treatment, but with continuing to build the structure I know I thrive in.

Figuring this out in real time.

I used to wait until I felt motivated to change something but motivation comes and goes. Maybe I was “locked in” for a solid week or even a month… and then life happens and that energy begins to fade. Maybe you have felt the same.

To deal with this, I’ve been focused on smaller things. Daily structure, simple habits, stuff that doesn’t require me to feel inspired.

I’ve realized I do best when I don’t have to constantly decide who I want to be that day. I make small promises to myself and repeat.

That’s how I’m trying to build momentum.

Change is hard, but with it comes a new chapter with new opportunities. Marlin Pl will always have a special place in my heart, but I couldn’t be more excited for what the future may hold. Here’s to a new era! 🥂
