Call me international drag superstar 🥴 jk but it has been almost a week since the king fling show and now im back in am*rica, but i cant help it but think abt that night. Its not just the first time i perform in the motherland, first time i perform outside of am*rica, but also the first time I found my queer community where I was born and raised. Being able to perform lý ngựa ô, ngựa ô thương nhớ in drag for my people is indescribable joy. Being able to be a part of a drag king show in the motherland with such a big, loving audience is the utmost privilege. Being able to go around and hang out with so many gay ass people and see all the different types of drag in Việt Nam is the greatest blessing.
In conclusion, thank y’all for such a meaningful, loving, and fun trip back home.

Heyyy y’allllll! I HAD MY DRAG DEBUTTTTT!!! Omg how can I encapsulate all of my emotions in one post? This weekend has been an emotional roller coaster in which I was able to overcome my fears and heal my inner child at the same time.
In addition, I wanted to bring elements from my Vietnamese culture into my performance, so I took inspiration from hát bội, Vietnamese court opera, which also directly translated to “painted face theater”. Fun fact, my great grandpa from my mom side was a famous hát bội singer, so I like to think that I am continuing my ancestors’ legacy with a queer twist. Hehehe
And, I could not have done it with the beautiful, supportive community around me!

In addition, I wanted to bring elements from my Vietnamese culture into my performance, so I took inspiration from hát bội, Vietnamese court opera, which also directly translated to “painted face theater”. Fun fact, my great grandpa from my mom side was a famous hát bội singer, so I like to think that I am continuing my ancestors’ legacy with a queer twist. Hehehe
