My mother sent me this “reportage” this morning. It was around 20 degrees below zero last night; now it’s −15 outside and +7/+10 inside our house near Kyiv (which is pretty warm compared to what others have).
They also didn’t have electricity the other day. Hopefully there are USB lamps these days.
I don’t think she wanted me to feel guilty or tell me how they are suffering. No—she wanted to show me how they are looking for fun and joy in such an absurd and surreal situation.
“I think one of our pet snails may have died from the cold, but we are managing. I don’t think there’s anything that could break us” she told me, with laughter at the end of our phone call.
