John Waters turned 80 yesterday. I have been very blessed to speak with him on multiple occasions and even designed an exhibition that included one of his sculptures. I have many influences. My hero is John and The Dreamlanders.

John once said „that kids got the beat“ about my dancing during a Mink Stole rock concert, he once told me that American politics could be described as a metaphor for fisting, and I wish I was on the Christmas card list. I have always been startstruck around him.

I am neurodivergent. Wunderbar ends with Cliff starting his novel, Sally booking an indie film, Emcee leading a strike, Monika finding Peter, Rob getting Sally’s coat back from the doctor, Ernst and Max being arrested, and Hermann finding his voice. I like my show. It is very sweet and heartwarming in spite of all the emotional and physical violence. It is simultaneously very real and very hopeful. We need that and we need that in a way that doesn’t use a metaphor. This play is about what it is like to be a millennial, Gen Z, Gen X, a boomer, a man, a woman, a trans person, rich, poor, or whatever… at this exact moment in time in which we live

It is the Cabaret story. It is not Cabaret. It includes new songs, new plot points, and new characters. I wrote it.

My first and only attempt at German expressionism: A full-sized billboard for Berliner Ensemble, made with paint I bought at the hardware store. The image was inspired by Bertolt Brecht‘s 1932 pro-socialist film Kuhle Wampe, and utiilized William Burrough‘s cut-up technique for writing in order to make a visual commentary on gentrification and advertising in the modern world. It was a privilege to be a part of this amazing weekend in 2021, which included many young artists and offered opportunity for creative freedom.

Wunderbar is a piece that blends musical theatre and investigative journalism as a means to combat fascist ideology and celebrate this crazy little thing we call life. Through song, dance, and dialogue, the audience will go through the complete spectrum of human emotions in order to realise that all of us have the power to make a difference and it is our differences that make us special. This time, tomorrow belongs to everyone.

Wunderbar is primarily about writer’s block, that terrible feeling that afflicts anyone who has ever held a pen.

The 2021 UdK Bühnentage project that broke all the rules. A film by Amelie, Geoff, Martin, and Liuba with financial support from Joe Biden (we used a portion of my COVID-19 stimulus check to pay for the greenhouse) , B-Roll from an abandoned hospital, and all sorts of other stuff. Filmed and presented at Schillerkömodie in Fabulous Berlin.
