Now in our 53rd year, Millay Arts offers a range of multidisciplinary artist residencies, including those that enrich our local community.

We are FOUR DAYS AWAY from the opening of WITH QUIET EYES, Millay Arts’ first-ever exhibition of NY state-based Visual Arts alumni! To kick things off, let’s learn a little bit more about some the artist featured:
Maya Ciarrocchi (Visual Arts, 2018) is a Canadian American interdisciplinary artist based in the Bronx. Her creative practice is rooted in ecological and scientific inquiry, excavating the buried pasts and imagining the unknown future. This is revealed through one of Ciarrochi’s pieces in our exhibition, which she says, “envisions humanity’s environmental impact on the planet and the irrevocably altered future... to construct a world unearthed by archaeologists long after we are dust.” (Photograph by Shawn Poynter)
Paolo Arao (Visual Arts, 2018) is a Filipino born visual artist based in Hudson, NY. He specializes in sewn paintings, textile constructions, and site-responsive installations that are rooted in geometric abstraction. Arao writes of his pieces in the exhibition, “I’m curious about sameness and difference. At first glance, the pair of artworks appear identical; upon closer inspection, subtle differences emerge between the two.” (Photograph by Kristina Williamson)
Danielle Dimston (Visual Arts, 2001, 2002, 2014), based in New York, writes of her works in WITH QUIET EYES, “these watercolors explore moments when matter concentrates, light contends with density, and form asserts itself.”
To see Ciarrocchi, Arao, or Dimston’s work, VISIT TSL HUDSON BETWEEN MAY 23 - JUME 21, 2026
More artists will be highlighted soon, stay tuned!

We are so very and deeply saddened by the great and tragic loss last week of the gifted Michael Harrison, a brilliant composer, a wonderful friend and a true visionary.
His genius and generosity, as well as his music, will continue to shine brightly for a long time to come: we will never forget his sitar and piano playing in our Composers Suite (Michael returned to Millay Arts several times over the years) to the delight of all.
Rest in Power Michael.
For more (NYTImes, 4/24/2026):
"Michael Harrison, a composer and pianist whose richly resonant, spiritually inclined compositions and improvisations, many for pianos he radically redesigned, drew on his deep knowledge of Indian raga and nontraditional tuning systems, died on April 17 in Manhattan. He was 67."

CONGRATULATIONS MODNEY (Composing, 2022) on being named to the prestigious roster of 2026 Guggenheim Fellows!
"Modney is a composer and violinist working at the nexus of composition, improvisation, and interpretation. A “new-music luminary” (The New York Times) hailed as “one of today’s most intrepid experimentalists” (Bandcamp Daily), Modney is a foremost interpreter of adventurous contemporary music, and has cultivated a holistic artistic practice as a composer, solo improviser, bandleader, writer, and collaborator. A highly detailed relationship to sound production on the violin is foundational to Modney’s creative practice, with a particular interest in complex timbres, Just Intonation, and in exploring the perceptual space between improvisation and notation.
Modney’s 2024 release of chamber music, Ascending Primes (Pyroclastic Records), featuring acclaimed creative musicians such as Anna Webber, Nate Wooley, Charmaine Lee, Ben LaMar Gay, and Cory Smythe, has been hailed as “a torrential and stunning record, which sounds like nothing else and serves as a peremptory statement: there is a new school in New York (Blow Up Magazine – Italy)”, and as a “detail-packed endeavor that’s as wondrous as it is demanding (Peter Margasak, Bandcamp Daily).”
