We all have favorite shoots for various reasons. At times it’s your peers or collaborators, the theme, the voices you’re lifting, what the brand stands for, the location, the food, the challenge, the fact that all of your toys are in play, or how it’s effortlessly simple and you brought a small yet powerful kit just to record four lines and a voiceover, while a new rate is met to reflect today’s shifting economy. Whether it’s all of it or one to the max, I’m always in gratitude for these ecstatic moments of life. #soundspeeds #sanfranciscosoundmixer

This account is a visual poem—an ode to the meaningful shoots I’ve been part of and I’d be remiss not to mention my number one champion in life, my beloved Papa, Erasto. Having moved through the month with grace, his spirit steadfast, and sight luminous, he ascended 7 days ago as a space-bound warrior of Eternal Unconditional Love. Like a noble captain charting a course beyond time and form, he embarked on his next great voyage.

Unmatched in his humanity, he was the voice that greeted my mornings with Buenos Días, the gentle farewell that closed my nights across the country and yet so close. The most striking, kind & charming man I’ve known. Handsome in form, radiant in soul, he lived a life woven with adventure, curiosity, and spiritual seeking.

His spiritual pursuits eventually brought our family to the United States in the ‘90s, as he traversed diverse religious paths, ultimately forging a deeply personal relationship with the divine. By simply embodying his truth, he instilled in me the courage to question, the freedom to seek, and the importance of doing so with love and compassion at the center of it all.

He also sparked my love for all things technical, the rhythms of machines and how to trust the motion of my own hands. When I was a teenager, he taught me how to change my cars oil, tires, spark plugs, you name it. We bonded over engine grease and socket wrenches followed by warm Mexican cuisine cooked by my Mom. A friend to my friends and an enthusiastic supporter of my creative path, he delighted in behind-the-scenes glimpses of shoots & celebrated my creative achievements with gratitude & pride, as well as those of my loved ones.

With deep reverence and emotions, I celebrate his remarkable and beautiful 78-year journey upon this earth alongside my family, & honor his legacy by dedicating all future adventures to the love, wisdom, and strength he so effortlessly embodied. Until we meet again my dear Papa, I will keep an ear out for you anytime you come to visit.

TB Tuesday 2017 • Recording with DP @janetjarman for a short titled “Con Madre” One of my favorite docs out in the field. I remember being at the ready, having to take naps in between with my gear strapped on for hours, waiting for the first birth I had ever witnessed.
