MEMO Music Hall
Iconic live music venue located in St Kilda, Melbourne.

Did you know…. “MEMO” is short for The St Kilda Memorial Hall ⭐️
Development of this beautiful building was first proposed in the 1920’s soon after the end of the First World War. It was decided that the Hall’s activities should generate revenue devoted to the relief of distressed soldiers and their families.
After a fierce design competition between architects (themselves returned Servicemen), Hudson & Wadrop, who later designed the Shrine of Remembrance, were chosen as the winners. Money for the construction was mostly raised by beach carnivals at Luna Park, special appeals and other entertainment with a substantial special grant from the St Kilda Council.
In 1924 The St Kilda Memorial Hall first opened its doors. The completed building was four stories high including 12 apartments to accommodate returned servicemen and four shops. The grand hall at the rear of the building could accommodate 1000 for dancing and seat 500. The inaugural event was an evening Ball and the venue was popular as a dance hall. This is where MEMO Music Hall continues to reside today ✨
