Megalo Print Studio
Megalo Print Studio is an access studio | screenprinting paper + fabric, etching, lithography + relief. Ngunnawal, Ngambri Country/Canberra, Australia

Support contemporary printmaking at Megalo! Help us fund shared studio tools that keep hands on practice accessible—every dollar is matched through Creative Australia Plus1 matched funding. 🌻🌻
For more than 45 years, Megalo Print Studio has been at the heart of Canberra’s contemporary arts community—supporting people to experiment and create through printmaking.
This year, thanks to Creative Australia’s Plus1 program, every dollar you give will be matched, doubling your impact.
🔸Help us keep print alive!
We’re raising $10,000 to purchase a large format printer, an essential resource that allows artists to produce positives, reference images and large scale works on site, rather than relying on costly external services. This equipment doesn’t replace traditional printmaking—it strengthens it.
Help us champion printmaking as a living, evolving practice—and ensure Megalo remains a place where tradition and innovation thrive side by side. Our studio is a working space where centuries old printmaking techniques—etching, screen-printing, lithography and relief printing—are practised every day. To keep these artforms thriving and accessible, we must support artists with the right tools.
Your donation will support artists, preserve vital skills, and build capacity for future generations.
📅Please help us achieve our goal and make a tax-deductible donation before 31 May, where your donation will be matched through Creative Australia’s Plus 1 program.

Big news – the Ten Trips exhibition is going on tour!! I’m so excited to take the show to my hometown of Canberra with my friends at @megaloprintstudio 💫
Ten Trips Around the Sun celebrates a kaleidoscope of work produced by Naarm-based Helio Press, specialising in illustrative risograph printing and DIY publishing. Helio is owned and operated by Melbourne artist Ashley Ronning, who has dedicated her practice to showcasing/capturing the fluid and abstract stories and experiences of authors and illustrators via the process of committing ink to paper.
Opening Friday 17 April: 5:30pm
Join us at 5:30pm, Friday 17 April for the opening of Ten Trips Around the Sun, celebrating the first 10 years of Helio Press.Don’t miss your chance to view the exhibition and dive into the world of risograph printing.
Ten Trips Around The Sun is on display 11 April - 23 May at @megaloprintstudio in Kingston, Canberra.
Megalo is open 9.30am - 5pm | Tuesday - Saturday

With the final day to see Ten Trips Around the Sun, we are looking back to the opening of this wonderful exhibition celebrating ten years of Naarm-based microstudio @heliopress.
Displaying hundreds of zines, artists prints and so much more that have been produced in collaboration with artists by this powerhouse of DIY publishing, the exhibition is a real dive into the wild and wacky world of Risograph. If you haven't heard of a Risograph print, it is a process that is sometimes descibed as a cross between a screen print and a photocopier that has been reclaimed by artists, designers and zinesters who embrace unique textures, chance and vibrant colour.

April Phillips and Outré Gallery present Cry With Me, a 24-hour window presentation of hand blown glass objects, holding and channeling tissues as a vessel to hold a
moment for fallen tears. The Smith Street facing display is augmented through a vinyl wall treatment and objects are accompanied by locally hand printed packaging.
Drop Let celebrates the infinite possibilities within a single drop, an impermanent compound of fluidity and clarity. Lead artist April Phillips has used the emoji-like droplet across her practice as a recurring motif, synonymous with sadness, yet smile-inducing as a light hearted symbol of optimism. The iconic shape puts a freeze frame on time, liquid suspended to represent a fallen tear, rain from the sky, a bead of sweat, heightened climax and nourishing hydration.
This installation includes the tissue vessel as a newly launched product developed in collaboration with glass master Tom Rowney, assisted by @anninngambra,
cold worked by @edwinaleeper_ and production manager Jacqueline Knight @glassola1 at @canberraglassworks
The packaging is printed by the artist at @megaloprintstudio with screen print superstar @alexlundy

Looking back at our February Print Social – screen printing mosaic tile designs on paper. Everyone had so much fun layering different patterns and designs hand drawn digitally by Quinton and Greta on the iPad.
It was so interesting to see what everyone printed and what designs they chose. We were inspired by traditional Moroccan tile designs and colours adding in contemporary elements
Here’s some photos from the evening! 🧡🩵❤️
We have a few spots left for our upcoming May Print Social, click the CLASSES & WORKSOPS link in our bio to find out more!

Artist in Residence Profile – Taner Ates (VCA).
Earlier this year we had one of our grad residents, Taner Ates from the Victorian College of the Arts visit us. He was working in the studios almost every day of his residency.
He worked between both Screen and Press studios. Photographed here, Taner was printing a series of large lithograph prints, it was interesting to see him experiment with different lithographic techniques. For this print he layered in a collage style different motifs drawn on various large stones that were inspired by a family member who drew similar images on the back of a door.
Taner works at VCA as a tech and exhibited at in a group show at Firestation Print Studio earlier this year.
We really enjoyed having Taner here, he is always welcome back!

Today I printed my first three-colour tea towel design at @megaloprintstudio This gang of gang gangs was printed through a painstaking process of creating three screens and lining them up with precision. I’m delighted with the results, and look forward to them winging their way to @thecuratoreum at @portraitau and @nationalarboretumcanberra this weekend 🦜 🦜🦜

Blown Glass // Screen Print - Made in Canberra
———————————-
April Phillips and Outré Gallery present Cry With Me, a 24-hour window presentation of hand blown glass objects, holding and channeling tissues as a vessel to hold a
moment for fallen tears.

UPCOMING WORKSHOP // STONE LITHOGRAPHY Low Tox with Millie Mitchell @milliemitchell.art
We are thrilled to have Eora-based artist Millie visit and teach a workshop here in May! 🖍️ 🪨
Stone lithography is a versatile print medium allowing artists to reproduce a range of tonal marks - from illustrative drawing to intuitive brushstrokes and photographic transfers. Based on the principle that grease and water don’t mix, the surface of the stone is chemically manipulated to strategically attract ink to positive image areas, and reject ink in negative space.
Come and learn this interesting process, no prior experience necessary.

🗓️ Friday 22 5:30pm - 9pm, 10am - 3pm Saturday 23 & Sunday 24 of May, 2026
