We really did film in Copenhagen, but we built this room here in Chicago. So here’s stuff you might not clock as graphics…

1. A sourdough schedule that may or may not yield real bread.
2. Danish outlets printed on vinyl. You’re not looking for these when you’re watching, but their existence helps trick your brain into reading the room as “real”.
3. I never thought about it, but exit signs are different (better) in the EU than the US because of course they are.
4. Possibly my favorite thing I designed all season (and extra tragic/typical that we never saw it on screen)…Stamps for flour bags!
5. This deceptively simple sign went through many many renditions. ⏱️

Health inspector shows up at The Beef, carries a clipboard, flashes a badge, gives them a meh grade. AKA more graphics that are deceptively complex

1. We never saw the clipboard, but it was ready to go anyway in case they wanted to do an insert shot of her dragging them. 📋

2. I designed the center “foil”, but the badge came from a prop shop. The real Chicago Board of Health logo is quite different. I made this one round and used one of my favorite things about the City of Chicago — the Municipal Device*!

3. “C” letter grade. This one was tricky because as many eagle-eyed locals know, Chicago doesn’t do these! (this is when I remind people this is not a documentary) So I grabbed some references and built it based on those.

*Introduced in 1892 as part of a Chicago Tribune contest, the Device was enshrined in our Municipal Code in 1917, along with the flag. The Municipal Device was intended for public re-use, to show our pride. (https://design.chicago.gov/municipal-device)

1. Carmy & Sugar outside O’Hare International Airport (or ORD as seen on the tram in the background).

2. We cleared the name Neve Airways, so I developed a logo for the fictional airline.

3. Script called for a suitcase, so that means luggage tags for Carmy and 20 extra for background extras with cleared names just in case. 🔖

4. Perforating the tags just like the real ones.

5. ✈️ Our airplane!!! It was a big day when it landed. PUN INTENDED

6. Seat back pockets have lots of stuff in them. It would look weird if nothing is in there…

7. Ok it WOULD HAVE looked weird if we saw it. You know what nevermi
