Wandering through the Jaftha’s flower farm and making a bouquet is my ritual of care and connectedness to the city in my backyard. The @on and @skyhighfarmgoods collection is my uniform for the outside – made to be worn amongst the wildflowers, resilient enough to last as bulbs turn to blooms year after year. The biodegradable sneaker box containing actual wildflower seeds can be returned to the earth for new growth.

Families have grown flowers in the Constantia Valley for over 100 years. The Jafthas were one such family who had lived in Constantia since 1850 and were known for their flowers. But, in the 1970s, the Jafthas were forced to leave their home, and their farm was destroyed during the forced removals imposed by the apartheid government, which forcibly relocated black and coloured families out of declared “white” areas.

In 1985, Moses Jaftha returned to farming in Constantia at what is now called Jaftha’s Flower Farm, using ecological farming methods that have been in the family for generations. Their speciality is dahlias, grown using bulbs that have been in the family for over 50 years. When the Jafthas were forcibly removed, they saved their dahlia bulbs with the hopes of one day returning to the land.

Regeneration began when the first dahlia bulb returned to the soil where it belonged. Their first blooms, having patiently rested under the soil until it was time to go home, telling the true history of this complex and beautiful place.💐

I’ve been called a ‘cool mom’ a few times, usually in reference to how I dress (as a mom). Before becoming a mom, I was adamant that my style wouldn’t change once I became a mom, how naive I was. Instead of building my outfit around a feeling or vibe, my initial thought is about ‘what can I easily breastfeed in’ and then I build my outfit around that piece. The go-to is large T-shirts or stretchy tops, button-down shirts, short dresses layered over pants—so essentially a large top. The one thing I’ve missed a lot is long dresses, because most of my long dresses aren’t really easy to breastfeed in without essentially just undressing.
Although @hara_thelabel’s Pia dress isn’t designed especially for breastfeeding, to my delight, it is breastfeeding approved. And so it is now part of my weekly rotation of clothes that are:
• comfortable to lounge around in but also appropriate to go out in.
• ⁠breastfeeding friendly
• ⁠make me feel like myself

So essentially, it’s ‘cool mom’ approved

Make my go-to breakfast granola with me 🍒

Ingredients:
2.5 Cups Oats
1 Cup Pumpkin Seeds
1 Cup Almonds
1 Cup Sunflower seeds
0.5 Cup Honey
5 Tbspn Coconut Oil melted

Method:
Preheat oven to 175 degrees Celsius. Mix all ingredients together. Spread out on two trays. Place in oven for 10 min. After 10 min remove and mix granola around before baking for another 10 min. Bake till golden brown.

Cold Soba Noodle Dish, perfect for cooling down on hot days, inspired by the colours in @lecruesetsa’s new Coupe Dinnerware Rainbow Sets 🌈 Here’s how you can make it at home:



For the marinade, prep fresh tomatoes by scoring and blanching them to remove skins. Boil as many tomatoes as you’d like. You’ll need one per serving.



In a Le Creuset Cast Iron Signature Casserole, heat 2 cups of water, 1/2 cup mirin, 1/2 cup soy sauce, and 2 tablespoons of sugar until the sugar has dissolved.



Let the marinade cool, then place half in a bowl and add skinned tomatoes. Allow to marinate for at least 30 minutes. Boil as many eggs as you’d like to the desired hardness.



An optional step is to boil two beetroots in 4 cups of water, drain the water into a dish and allow to cool, then let the hard-boiled eggs sit in the beetroot water for 30 minutes to colour the egg whites pinky-purple.



Finally, boil soba noodles (1 bunch per serving) according to directions on packaging, drain and rinse with cold water. Plate by adding the marinade to a bowl, then the soba noodles, marinated tomato, and egg. Finish by sprinkling spring onion on top
