Manchester United’s plan to build a brand new 100,000-seat stadium next to Old Trafford, dubbed ‘New Trafford’ has been in the works since March 2025, with architects Foster + Partners behind the iconic design and a price tag of around £2bn.

Now, nearly a year on, the project is picking up real momentum. Stadium development CEO Collette Roche confirmed this week that land deal talks with Freightliner, whose rail yard sits on the key plot next to the ground, are “progressing really, really well,” with positive news expected within the next few months.

Funding is also moving forward, with private investors lining up to back not just the stadium itself but the wider stadium district around it.

The dream target? Open in time to host the 2035 Women’s World Cup Final right here in Manchester. 🏟️🔴
