Otvoritveni večer MFRU31 se konča v dinamičnem svetu 𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐳𝐚 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐞. Naelektrena mešanica hiper folka in mračnih vibracij v svojem bistvu uteleša 𝑌𝑂𝐿𝑂. V njej je mogoče zaznati vplive breakcora, rava, glitcha, spoken-worda in metala – načelo »več je več« je razvidno iz nasprotujočih si elementov in naglih sprememb, ki poslušalce zmedejo in jih prisilijo, da se otresejo vsakršnih pričakovanj. Sodelovanje z umetnico 𝐏𝐢𝐱𝐞𝐥 𝐁𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐢 izbranim skladbam doda pridih toksične, a obenem očarljive estetike, ki se kaosu zoperstavlja s subtilno nežnostjo.

The music draws from breakcore, rave, glitch, spoken-word and metal influences. The principle of “more is more” is evident in the contrasting elements and rapid changes, disorienting listeners and urging them to shake off expectations. Collaborations with artist 𝐏𝐢𝐱𝐞𝐥 𝐁𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐢 on several tracks add a toxic yet enchanting aesthetic, juxtaposing chaos with a subtle gentleness.

Self-described as “drum ‘n’ gnome,” it is not so far-fetched to imagine Loto Retina as some fantastical creature who just happened to wander into this mortal realm – and their songs don’t do a lot to refute this possibility. Their high-fructose music – which has been released on cult labels such as Orange Milk and Promesses – combines micro-sample chaos and gloopy bass with unpredictable percussion to create a congregation of organic and mechanical sounds. While there is a digitality to Loto Retina’s sound – sometimes sounding like a pleasantly malfunctioning robot – it too holds an animistic and feral quality: this is music that growls as much as it grooves.
