„For me, it’s very difficult to think backwards. I prefer only to look forward.“ — Heinz Mack.
The Mack Foundation is honored to share an extensive feature recently published by the Financial Times. In this insightful profile, the artist reflects on a career spanning over seven decades — a journey he describes in „four quarters“, from the radical beginnings of the ZERO movement to his profound exploration of colour and light.
The article provides a rare glimpse into Mack’s creative sanctuary in Ibiza, where his sculpture garden serves as a living dialogue between granite, stainless steel, and the Mediterranean environment. By revisiting the „intellectual vacuum“ of post-war Germany that prompted the birth of ZERO in 1957, the report underscores Mack’s pivotal role in redefining the „vibration“ of modern art.

„There are moments when you choose a colour and know straight away that it’s the right one, even before you’ve started painting; and when that choice turns out to be spot on, I find myself in seventh heaven.“
