My inspiration comes from the Buddhist concept that life inherently contains suffering and impermanence. I deeply contemplated this idea, which led me to ask myself a series of questions such as "why do we suffer?" "What is the meaning of all this?" After a long period of searching, I realized that regardless of anyone's religious or non-religious beliefs, we can all recognize that we, humans, are born fighters. We scream and cry at birth, mentally and emotionally grapple with the absurdity and temporality of this existence, personally face and/or witness injustice, and everything in between. We all somehow persist through all of this on top of our unique circumstances. Through this project I am encouraging to honor and face these human scars. Whether you are a ballerina, boxer, janitor, mother, or a man on the street, we are all born fighters. In this collection I use the extreme juxtapositions of life as a visual metaphor to represent the human condition. Like Yin and Yang, hard and soft, euphoria and misery, push and pull - distressed horse nubuck leather, featherweight cotton jersey, silk charmeuse, untreated transparent leather, silk organza, silk chiffon, foam batting, and ace bandages were utilized to emphasize these extreme dualities.
