Thanks to @jimboulton for this clip of me testing ‘In A Heartbeat’ in 2019 @hereeast in a huge echoing space.

This installation measures your heart rate variability and creates a live visual and music composition based on your heartbeat and the variability of your heartbeat.

In short, the more groovy and variable your heart is, the better you are.

If your heartbeat is like a metronome, you’re probably stressed.

This was a commission installed in the lobby of @uncommon_space in Liverpool St, in London’s financial district, to encourage people to check in with their heart.

Idle Time
17th - 27th January 2024
5.30-10pm

Best seen from:
Union Square, Canary Wharf, London E14 9QH

A commission by @canarywharflondon

For Winter Lights 2024

This project explores idleness in a time of hyper-productivity.
I’ve used the efficiency of lasers to project giant animated figures on a new building under construction in Canary Wharf.
The movement of the figures has been generated using Motion Capture technology, which developed from ’Time And Motion’ studies, originally designed to improve the efficiency of workers in the 1920’s.

I asked a number of fellow artists to do… not very much… while wearing motion capture suits.
They stood around thinking about what to have for dinner, scratched some itches, stared out of the window, chatted amiably, and generally had an ‘unproductive’ time.

I turned their movements into animated line drawings, inspired by wire figures used to analyse the movements of factory workers.

My thanks to

And

It’s a bit chilly down there right now, but come and take a look.
It gets busy at the weekends…

Sketched faces animated with mocap, then projected with a laser. Volume down because my singing voice is off today.
Experimenting for a piece about Victorian seances.

Layered lightning sketches on top of model from @smkmuseum royal cast collection.
All the lines follow the contours of the model. Disco colours right now. Will probably change.

Testing fabrics for laser back projection in the studio.
Looking for something that lets zero laser light through, but is translucent enough for a decent image. And works outside.
This might be it.
Excuse the messy studio. A few things on the go right now.
