It’s a Live Convention closing party tradition: a spectrum of rare soulful sounds spanning sweet soul, modern soul, lovers rock and deep funk. Chairman Mao is an NYC-based journalist, DJ, curator and filmmaker whose output with Ego Trip, Vibe and the Red Bull Music Academy is rivalled only by his great taste in records. Fellow soul lovers Todd “Shotgun” Shima (Sacramento) and Froz 1 (Philly) make their Live Convention debut with LC’s own Arcee in tow.

A chat about the influence of the infamous Roosevelt Hotel record convention with rapper/producer Lord Finesse and writer/DJ “Chairman” Jeff Mao with hosts Jake One and Arcee. Its brief but impactful existence spawned the creation of many 90’s hip hop classics, attracted the biggest hip-hop producers/DJ’s and expanded the cult of record collecting to a whole new audience. Presented in partnership with Loop Sessions Toronto and Standard Time. Please note: this is a daytime event and the venue is not fully accessible with no elevator access to the 2nd floor.

Edan, Mr. Thing and DJ Nuts have never shared a bill before - but they do share a love for funky, psychedelic sounds and an uncompromising approach to party rocking. NYC-based multi-disciplinary artist Edan’s palate stretches from the origins of hip-hop to the fringes of rock. The UK’s Mr. Thing has been championing proper selections across compilations, festivals and dance floors for nearly 3 decades. And São Paulo’s DJ Nuts brings a turntablist lens to the funk, psych, samba, rock and MPB of his home country, Brazil.
