Met een prachtig licht- en luchtspektakel kwam de Poldertoren tot leven en vele honderden mensen waren er getuige van.

10 years of research. 14 million data points. 14 laser projectors.

What started a decade ago as a research project between Jaco Schilp and Jan Willem Campmans @wlumz has finally pushed through the technical ceiling. We’ve turned the historic @grotekerkdh into a real-time data environment.

By utilizing the new @TouchDesigner POP operators, we’re running a full LiDAR 3D scan of the cathedral—14 million particles calibrated in real-time. No pre-renders. No loops. Just raw architecture translated into light.

Experience the intersection of history and high-performance code.

Dit lichtkunstproject transformeert het monumentale kerkgebouw tot een abstracte compositie van licht en geluid, waarin de architectuur op artistieke wijze centraal staat. Met behulp van geavanceerde Lidar 3D-scantechniek worden gewelven, lijnen en structuren vertaald naar ritmische lichtpatronen, gecombineerd met speciaal ontwikkelde soundscapes.

Zo ontstaat een magische, verstilde sfeer die uitnodigt om te kijken, te luisteren en te vertragen.

Points of Light illuminates de Grote Kerk Den Haag ✨
Slow down and experience de Grote Kerk as you’ve never seen it before!

This light art project transforms the monumental church into an abstract composition of light and sound, placing its architecture at the artistic core. Using advanced LiDAR 3D scanning technology, vaults, lines and structures are translated into rhythmic light patterns, combined with specially developed soundscapes.

The result is a magical, contemplative atmosphere that invites you to look, listen and slow down.

Points of Light illuminates Grote Kerk The Hague

On Thursday 15 January, Points of Light launches at Grote Kerk The Hague. This light-art project transforms the monumental church into an abstract composition of light and sound, placing the architecture at the heart of the experience.

A magical atmosphere for everyone
Folkert Blaauw, Director of Grote Kerk:
“With Points of Light, Grote Kerk becomes an entirely new experience. Light and soundscapes reveal the architecture in a way you’ve never experienced before, and the projections create a magical atmosphere. The show is free to attend, because we want everyone to be able to discover the church in this light.”

Light-pulse technology
Points of Light uses a LiDAR 3D scan: a technique that employs light pulses to create highly accurate three-dimensional models. This data forms the basis for projections that reveal the vaults and structures of the high choir in rhythmic patterns of light, combined with specially developed soundscapes.

From dark to light
Visitors are invited to slow down and experience the space in a new way. The project shows how a historic monument can shift from dark to light, offering a fresh perspective on one of The Hague’s oldest and most iconic buildings.

Dates & times
Points of Light can be seen on 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 29, 30 and 31 January, daily from 17:00 until around 21:00. The projection runs in a 15-minute loop and is free to attend.

Points of Light is an initiative by LiGHT-UP Collective (Jan Willem Campmans, Jaco Schilp, Sem Schreuder and Merijn Meijers), in collaboration with Epson, Clayton Fredrik on behalf of The Greanery, and Grote Kerk The Hague.
