Free event in Harehills! Celebrating a piece of local history…
For over 60 years, at 200 Harehills Lane there stood a huge factory.
It was pulled down in 1980 and mostly forgotten.
A. Kershaw & Sons made projectors that were used in 75% of British cinemas, and brought film to audiences around the world. 📽️
Alongside Bilal Masjid Mosque, The Point, a community charity, now occupies the site.
Here, Leeds Animation Workshop hosts a display of artworks, movies and reel-to-reel projectors.
A rare chance to watch films projected, close-up, in ways old and new - a range of mechanical projectors in action!
Everybody welcome, all ages, free of charge

September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day and marks the final day of our Maria’s 500 mile cycle ride. We wanted to make a final post highlighting this amazing fundraising effort she has accomplished in the name of increasing awareness of suicide prevention.
Our most recent film ‘Suicide in the Family’ was created to support those who work with children bereaved by parental suicide. As Maria reaches the home stretch, consider donating to our Local Giving (🔗 in our bi0) to support this film’s distribution and help us continue to make resources tackling topics like this.

Helllooooo people. I’m having a rest day in Edinburgh with my family — finally a moment to stop pedalling, shower, eat big and organise my thoughts.
When I’m cycling, my mind is fairly simple: directions, phone charge, food, water, and sleep. I’m feeling lots of things now that I’ve stopped, but mostly super mega filled with gratitude. 🐸
Thank you all for the likes, comments, shares, and donations — It’s really really motivating and nice and I am so blessed to have you all supporting something that’s so important to me, and essential to the media landscape 🏞️🌅🌁📽️
I’m also just so grateful to even do this trip — taking time out of the daily routine to spend all day with my favourite vehicle, it’s really refreshing and new and nice to challange myself in this way, and feel proud of myself (and Jax when they were with me) every day 😅 I had to get special cycling shorts today with the pillow because my bottom is hurting.
Suicide prevention month is now, it’s the time to share information, end the stigma, and spread hope.
Suicide can be prevented — through education, and early support.
The film we made focuses on the many children who lose a parent to suicide, they are at much higher risk of suicide. Learning how to support them matters.
If you know someone affected by suicide or who may be struggling with their mental health.. reach out, talk, listen, give a hug? It might feel uncomfortable/ difficult to start conversations, but that’s part of change + something needs to change — staying silent is worse.
If you’d like to get involved. All around the place, (online and in person) there will be events happening on September 10th, world suicide prevention day.
Mental health is something we all need to understand, together.
Thanks for reading if you did.
Anyway, thank you again and high blessings to you all.
We went past this Airbnb which was just this tower, nothing else around, surrounded by cows, adult and baby.
Little me with no stabilisers

HELLO THERE!!! I am cycling 500 miles this week and next to raise awareness for suicide prevention month (September) I’m riding from red brick Leeds to Manchester the long way making it there by the 10th (suicide prevention day) becauuuse..
This year, with my powerful Leeds Animation Workshop team we made a film that helps support children and young people bereaved by parental suicide. ‘Suicide in the Family’ the film looks at the ways children and young people may be affected when a parent dies by suicide, and shows the best ways their families, carers or professionals can support them. It’s really important because many children who lose a parent to suicide are at a higher risk of physical or mental illness, and even of taking their own lives. There’s already so much death around us. The film will be screened on world suicide prevention day in Manchester.
Leeds Animation Workshop is a small, non for profit, women-led collective who has been making award winning social documentaries for over 40 years. Helping start conversations about a whoooole array of subjects: equality, domestic violence, gender and sexuality, LGBTQ+ identities, families, workers rights, world conflict, climate change and more.
I’m doing this cycle to fundraise for Leeds Animation Workshop, so that we can disseminate‘Suicide in the Family’ further and continue making more meaningful and accessible films.
For more info, do check out the link in da bio for a little blog.
And if you like this (cycling, mental health awareness, animation, meaningful accessible media 🤷) and have a little to give, it would really help. Local giving link in bio 🧡🧡
