🚨CALL TODAY! 🚨

JUSTICE FOR WALTER SCOTT!

Killer cop Michael Slager, convicted for the 2015 murder of Walter Scott, is set to be released early by the federal Bureau of Prisons, despite being sentenced to 20 years after pleading guilty to civil rights violations and admitting to second-degree murder.

Early release for Slager would be a slap in the face to the family that fought to have him charged. He must serve all 20 years of his sentence in prison, not a halfway house.

We are calling on all our forces across the country to call the Englewood Federal Correctional Institution in Littleton, Colorado to demand NO EARLY RELEASE FOR MICHAEL SLAGER.

Swipe for a script to make calls and please comment below and let us know the response you get.

And don't forget to add your name to our petition at tinyurl.com/NoEarlyRelease27

Charleston, SC – On Wednesday, May 13, organizers with the Lowcountry Action Committee (LAC), a South Carolina branch of the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (NAARPR), gathered in support of members of the family of Walter Scott against the early release of former North Charleston Police Department Michael Slager.

In 2016, Slager pleaded guilty to federal civil rights violations and was sentenced to 20 years in prison; this was after a South Carolina grand jury indicted him on a state murder charge, which ended in a mistrial. For many who have lost loved ones to police brutality, the outcome of the federal trial felt like a rare instance of justice.

Join us at the federal courthouse to stand in solidarity with family of Walter Scott on Wednesday, May 13 at 11AM at a press conference to demand NO EARLY RELEASE FOR MICHAEL SLAGER!

On April 4, 2015, Walter Scott, a 50-year-old Black man, was fatally shot by Michael Slager, a local police officer in North Charleston, South Carolina. Slager stopped Scott for a non-functioning brake light and lied about the shooting by falsely claiming he acted in self-defense. He alleged Scott grabbed his stun gun, a narrative disproven by video taken by Feidin Santana that showed Slager shooting the unarmed Scott in the back while he fled. Slager further tried to cover up the shooting by planting the taser near Scott’s body, all of which was captured in Santana’s footage, which was publicly released four days after the shooting.

In May 2016, Slager was indicted on federal charges including violation of Scott’s civil rights and obstruction of justice. He pleaded guilty to federal charges of civil rights violations. In December 2017, Slager was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

It was recently been brought to the attention of the Scott family that Michael Slager has been quietly shaving time off his sentence due to a loophole in the First Step Act and he is now eligible for early release to a halfway house in 2027.

The Scott family is devastated by this news and will make their voices heard at a press conference on Wednesday.

Stand in solidarity with the Scott Family!
Sign the petition to demand no early release for Michael Slager and join them on Wednesday to amplify their call!

JUSTICE FOR WALTER SCOTT!!

We are calling on volunteers to help us hit the road! Our Caravans for Cuba campaign is on it’s way to S.C. collecting and carrying life saving aid.

We need people to help us label boxes, sort and load up trucks on April 9th at locations in Ladson and Charleston. In addition, people who can materially support our caravan with funds, support our volunteers with lunch, or help us with documenting our work.

This survey will give us an idea of how you can contribute to this effort to break the U.S. blockade on Cuba!

We will follow up with exact details on time and locations once we collect and review responses.

Thank you.
