Coming from a restaurant design background, dining rooms are always and forever one of my favorite spaces to design.

When one of my first residential clients called me to walk through a new home they were in contract for we talked about a vision for making it their dream home. A clear priority was to be able to host big dinners in an amazing room. The existing dining room boasted cased openings, great moldings and windows, but lacked personality. Selecting a dramatic @benjaminmoore color I’ve repeatedly used on restaurant projects in past work, we layered in bespoke window treatments by @picnichousedrapers in an enchanting gold sheer by @leejofa oversizing them to puddle luxuriously. The moody backdrop is key to allow the gold hues to pop and for the amber cast glass chandelier to shine stunning patterns on the walls and ceilings. No wallpaper needed!

What started as a kid’s room... is now a dining nook that fits eight💫

This dining nook started with a sketch and a lot of constraints—HVAC risers, structural columns and a requirement for circulation to the combined apartment. Years of restaurant design work pay off when executing precise planning, accomodating flow without sacrificing form.

Panel molding now hides the risers with symmetry and frames the banquette like a built-in jewel box. A glossy tonal ceiling draws the eye up, while the SkLO pendant and reflective artwork create a romantic twinkle— a glow that lingers long after sunset.
