The @LAZoo is celebrating the birth of a new western lowland gorilla, the latest in a series of great ape births this year.

The infant arrived on November 22 and is the second baby for parents N’djia and Kelly. The newborn’s name and gender are not yet known, and the pair is now on view at the Zoo’s Campo Gorilla Reserve.

This marks the fifth great ape born at the Zoo in just a few months, following three chimpanzees and one orangutan earlier this year.

Thank you to LA CITYVIEW 35 for joining us out in the rain to create this story!

Camp S.P.A.R.K. (Service, Professionalism, Attitude, Respect, Knowledge), held this year on November 15th and 16th, is a rewarding and challenging empowerment camp specifically designed to "spark" young girls ages 14 -18, aiming to introduce them to the exciting world of firefighting.

Teens develop confidence, character, and teamwork skills through hands-on training exercises including hose handling, ladder climbing, CPR and first-aid instruction, power tool operation, and much more. It's an opportunity to explore and learn about a career in fire service in a dynamic environment.

This program is held once a year -- for more information and future dates, visit joinlafd.org/youth-programs
