I paint images that occupy me, step back, look, and listen for where the work is going, what it is becoming. I shape the work and let it shape me in return. As a response to the right kind of attention and immersion, the painting reveals new directions and meanings.
Disorder plays an important role as the chaos of the studio drives the process forward. Works are stacked, stepped on, spilled on, placed and hung haphazardly, creating chains of imprints within the studio’s tangle of overlapping flows.

I wanted to paint your portrait but I have never seen your face.
I made my way downwards, a force from the underground keeps pulling on my feet.
That is the angels.

You, Nomi, asked: If they saw my face — will they know me — Nomi — know me, now?
I vow to be unfathomable. I vow to not be nonchalant.

The drummer
Filippa Friberg utforskar måleriets språklighet genom att dekonstruera figurativa bildelement och måleriska gester till representativa byggstenar. Hon hittar sina motiv genom en intuitiv metod, där måleriska spår läggs till och tas bort upprepade gånger tills målningen tar form.
Friberg ser målningen som ett rum i sig själv och är intresserad av målningens multidimensionella potential att kombinera det fysiska med det sinnliga. Mellan det upplösta och definierade gör hon ett försök att närma sig det ordlösa språket. Tanken och minnet materialiseras både genom och bakom ytan.

Filippa Friberg explores the narrative aspects of painting through deconstructing figurative elements as well as painterly gestures into representative building blocks. She finds her motives through an intuitive method, where painterly traces are added and removed until the painting takes form.
Friberg sees the painting as a room in itself and interests herself with the painting’s multidimensional potential of combining the physical and the sensuous. In between the defined and the dissolved, she tries to approach a nonverbal language. The thought and memory materialized through and past the surface.

Friberg sees the painting as a room in itself and interests herself with the painting’s multidimensional potential of combining the physical and the sensuous. In between the defined and the dissolved, she tries to approach a nonverbal language. The thought and memory materialized through and past the surface.
