Surprise !

After Zoukak’s closing of its Karantina Theatre, we were able to fit in one final night inside the space that has served as a key element in the art and cultural landscape for over a decade. A space that is now being taken over by factories.
As the city continues its erosion, we are intent on shaping one final encounter within these walls. And what better than the ten hymns of corrosion to be sung for the occasion, especially after all this while without them. Before the lights dim and the structure returns to silence, we meet once more, to acknowledge what fades and what persists despite it.

Songs for the decaying times and downfalls, bereft of deathly gloom. Wondering why we don’t dance to this more often. A night of post-punk, new wave, EBM, synthpop, industrial, and the sort, dance underdogs. Genres that weren’t given enough justice here.

In these times of continuing corrosion, Information War - that the struggle for control was now not only territorial but communicatory - could not but come into currency; and acts of defiance, no matter how small in the wider scheme of things, could not be more vital.

After two strong editions, Metro Al Madina welcomes back Frequent Defect for a third collaboration on the Grime and Punishment series.

For this edition, Parmigian Don, Yasmeen, DAO, Junior and Bakisa will come together for another extended exploration of bass-driven sounds.

Celebrating music as cultural phenomena, this series reveres the weird cornucopia that is grime, the grubby energy of UK garage, and the more recent revival in the regional sphere. Perceived as a direct untainted and reactive reflection of modern societies and cultures, we’re keen to hear what the commentary on the present situation will be.

Expect trap, grime, bass, jungle, hip hop, rap, footwork, limb work and all kinds of work.

A set by the coolest June as @juniorsfeir mixing mutant techno, breaks and bass.

June is a Beirut-based synthesist and DJ. His practice moves between club-oriented work, experimental electronics, and music for film, theater, and installation. Working between club pressure and exploratory drift, rooted in deep listening, digging and auditory experience with an instinct long-form storytelling.
His approach to djing favors atmosphere, using texture and rupture in meticulous shape. Drawing from years of working within synthesis, custom electronics and sound design, he treats the booth as an extension of live composition blending pacing and mood with precision, and approaches the decks as an open system responsive to space, system, and collective attention.
As the co-founder of Frequent Defect, a Beirut-based artist collective, June’s practice was shaped by contexts of risk, listening, and adaptability carrying forward.
