Mostly moments I don’t have the vocabulary for yet but “keeping my heart open” & “dreaming big” as Hollywood would have it.
It had been on my mind to make my first movement video for a while so we did it! Inspired by bringing Shakespeare into a different light and share a different perspective. Taking one concept from Macbeth and interpreting this way.
Thank you to everyone who trusted us to make something like this happen, it was an absolute privilege to work with these actors and dancers merging two worlds into one.

Working with my mentor and now over the past few years, a collaborator. It always feels like a privilege when she goes into an improvisational exploration of movement like this.
In this session, we extracted themes from the play and then explored it with movement. Here I watch her first, we examine it and then I adapt it to make it my own, to tell the story for English Ako.
Her imagination is so embodied, dynamic and vast. It’s truly inspiring to watch her explore and to now work alongside each other.

We sat down with writer/director/producer/performer Jules Chan to talk about English Ako.
A funny, heartfelt solo show celebrating what it means to grow up between cultures. Born in Manila and raised in England, Jules takes us on a search for his older brother while inviting us into his world of school detentions, Hinge dates, and Universal Credit meetings. Along the way, the people in his life are reimagined as the Shakespearean characters he grew up reading.
Warm, witty, and deeply relatable, English Ako reminds us that we have so much in common to laugh about, and that what makes us different deserves to be celebrated.
