What Do You Take When Your Life Must Fit Into a Suitcase?
We were deeply honoured for the opportunity to host a private screening of DIRT at the European Parliament, accompanied by a panel discussion and an art installation, “Confiscated Memories”. The event brought together policymakers, cultural actors, journalists and experts to address displacement, integration, and the role of culture and media in times of war.
The installation featured real personal belongings of internally and externally displaced Ukrainians, tracing how these objects have gained new meanings and become physical symbols of home.
The panel discussion featured First Vice-President Sabine Verheyen, Monika Hohlmeier, Vice-Chair of the Committee on Budgets, His Excellency Vsevolod Tchentsov, Vít Novotný (migration expert at the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies), Dr Sara Marino, Svitlana Baldina and her son Viktor Dynnyk from “Let’s Shake Hands” project, Nathalie Georges (ARTE Reportage), producers of DIRT Konstantin Bidnenko (@bidnenkok) and Lisa Kochanova (@lisakochanova), and writer-director Lada Kopytova (@ladakopytova).
The event delivered one clear message: Europe’s response to displacement must go beyond emergency support — it must combine long-term integration, cultural understanding, and credible information to build resilient societies.
Thank you First Vice-President Sabine Verheyen (@sabineverheyen), Monika Hohlmeier, Vice-Chair of the Committee on Budgets (@monika.hohlmeier), and the European Parliament (@europeanparliament) team for your continued support for Ukraine and for allowing us to share this important story.
