Noire realms: a truly immersive experience Volume 1 by @kiaraamajade and curated by I🌟🌀🤎🪞
1 month to create and here it was!

There is really something about building shows in which the audience are not only invited to see the show but BE in it. Being a curator I think has been a very visual job for many but in my experience, getting to build and support moments and memories where people can come together to share, make, sing and even BREATHE together is amazing and fulfilling not just from a creative or professional stance but a very human one.

This show totally met its intentions to bring an audience into the world of Kiara but really gorgeously I think it really did help and act as a bridge to our guests coming deeper into themselves. With the event portion of the programme we were even graced by people sharing what it is they’ve found over time by sharing their poetry, their musical sounds (Insane musical performances by the way) and just kind words. Sooo many people came to share their physical selves just through showing up - 60+ guests that Saturday night in the small hotbox of a studio haha it was very heartwarming so thank you to those who managed to come that night or in the day time to share the space with us.

Home and homes, collective spaces with the purpose of welcoming guests and inviting them to take up space in it has been a really fun theme or thread for me and @rialto_shop couldn’t have been a better or more perfect location honestly. Couldn’t have been more aligned to Kiara’s work or the visitor experience that was designed so I’m very grateful for that and their time.

Thank you to both @kiaraamajade & @rialto_shop for having me on the project, though it was short - much was gained in such a little time, truly a successful feat in all facets and that is all we can ask for 🤎

Thank you to both @kiaraamajade & @rialto_shop for having me on the project, though it was short - much was gained in such a little time, truly a successful feat in all facets and that is all we can ask for 🤎

Come to the first show of the year! ‘Noire Realms’ by the visionary @kiaraamajade Curated by Me at @rialto_shop 🥹🤎⭐️🪔🪞🌍🌀🐚

Kiara Ama Jade is a sculptor, visual poet, installation artist and musician based in both London, UK and Roseau, Dominica.

Her ever-evolving interdisciplinary practice combines writing, handcraft, sound and automated techniques ~

Noire Realms is the exploration of the complex interplay of light and dark within the psyche, on a micro and macrocosmic scale. The visual poems and spoken word within this program derive from an originally longer text written by Kiara. The excerpts of this text across her work capture her personal experiences in navigating inner landscapes that are becoming increasingly over - saturated by outer influences.

In collaboration with the viewer, the pieces debuting in this show will hopefully be an invitation to a deeper alignment with one’s own inner truth and serve as a bridge to Kiara’s creative and wider purpose-driven holistic.

Do join in on our celebration of connection and take part in this offering to the collective. May this immersive experience be an opportunity for us to build bridges of our own and enjoy creation in all its forms.

We will be open:
Saturday 25th January 10am - 3pm AND
Evening Spoken word & Jazz-filled Jam session 5pm - 9pm

Sunday 26th January 10am - 6pm :)

See you there x

‘From the Inside Out, The Outside In’ a solo show by @janariedel_art and I💐🖼
This is the space before, middle, after, day & night ~

It was really a vision brought to life in one of the most literal ways possible. Looking at the collaged version of my curatorial plan (slide 2) that I did in response to Jana’s gorgeous work - the idea literally became real. I couldn’t be more thankful and warmed that Jana trusted me and collaborated with me to create a space we would love and really celebrated her work. My thoughts, feelings and intentions were given so much space to shine and not just Jana but even our guests really did love what was designed with their enjoyment in mind.

Space was occupied, conversations were had, internal and external spaces were really inspired - at least on my part - by the people who came and immerse themselves in our world.

2 days install, first time painting a space! (Thank you @ryannaallen_ 😭💙) and a full night of hanging and dressing with Jana the next night before opening and it was complete within the schedule.

5 months of planning, projecting managing, budgeting, liaising, writing, designing, asking for thoughts and adapting. It was worth it and was a brilliant process with us :) we became a great force for our desires and nothing knocked us down so this was the result.

Looking forward to working with & celebrating my favourite neighbour again @janariedel_art 🫂💙

COME TO OUR SHOW ‘From the Inside Out, The Outside In’
12th - 15th December ~
A solo exhibition at @1lowerclaptonroad for Painter, Collage & mixed media artist Jana Riedel (@janariedel_art ) curated by Myself 🖌🏙🏢🎨🖼

A Celebration of our friendship and a dream of ours since Hackney Gallery opened.

“Whoever gets in there first helps the other” and here we are🤎

‘From the Inside Out, The Outside In’ is the seeing of objects, places and structures through the mind and eyes of Jana Riedel. This show is an open door to step into her creative world figuratively, but also quite literally. An immersion into the spaces in which she explores her relationship to her surroundings, as well as, how her surroundings inspire her to respond in exchange.

We are inviting you to peep behind the curtain if you will at her amazing, experimental and at times even playful practices and spend time inside, outside and in all the spaces in-between.

Whether it be in Jana’s paintings of her ‘home’, the remastered buildings and city pieces or her ‘Imagined Landscapes’ series - Jana’s works serve collectively as a collage of her life and inspirations; and we are so excited to share them with you.

May it be an opportunity for us to occupy space and see how in turn our spaces - both externally and internally, are shaped and inspired, creatively or otherwise.

Come join us for the private view and lets enjoy the festivities on
Thursday 12th December from 6:30pm - 9pm

Then Friday to Sunday from 11am - 7pm :)

See you there x

First interview about my practice as a Curator and Facilitator by that one platform I STILL dont shut up about @brushwrk.art 🥺💕

In July, I got to share my creative journey, how my practices have developed and thoughts on things like how language in the art world needs a change to become more accessible and quite frankly more enjoyable and human.

It was fun getting to explain what an unconventional path towards traditionally more institutional-based careers can look like and how serendipity and trust have played such a huge part in the wonderful opportunities I’ve had so far.

If you would like to read the interview, maybe even find out something you didn’t know about what I do, why I do stuff or how things have come to be for me then a link to the blog is in my bio :))

Thank you again @brushwrk.art for asking, its a pleasure contributing to a space that really does champion and celebrate art and artists for art’s sake❤️

Better late than never post!

——————-

Meet Jordan Clarke, a Curator, workshop facilitator
and image maker based in Hackney, East London.
We spoke to Jordan about how she got into curation,
finding your own visual language, learning on your
feet, the need for accessible language in the art
world and more.

Lorna Robertson (@lorna_robertson_ ) in @alisonjacquesgallery this Summer ☁️🍭💤

Fairyfloss, suickerspin, Papa’s beard and Midsummer’s night dream were the first things that easily came to mind when I looked and fell into Lorna’s world this July.

Initially from afar, these sweet and soft as cotton washes of colour and clotted blotches of pastels took me into a space not here, not there but not really in between. Somewhere outside of time or just unconcerned with time itself. Like a dream, though even dreams can appear linear. These works were truly unconcerned with time and something complete in their indescribable being in and of themselves.

Upon getting closer to the works though, I noticed they were actually more figurative than I thought. There were bodies and shapes, figures and forms that, more like a dream, one can distinguish - even if you dont know the relationship they hold to each other or their inspiration BUT nevertheless were such a pleasure to take in as they were~

I think just like candy floss, some of these moments captured could have been fleeting. Something that appears small or easy to understand then just as you grasp it or taste it, it melts into something else. Something yummy to digest and leaves a fun memory on your mind and creative palette. They seem to be works with ‘simple’ ingredients like:
An idea = (Sugar)
A fusion of a couple elements such as complimentary colours + pastels = (Air and Heat) and
Intention = (the making)
They are these delights on the senses, an experience that never gets tiresome and they ignite a childlike joy and comfort ~ maybe like a visual confectionary without the sickliness.

Like Candy floss.

And to see them on a warm day in Summer, I went to bed that evening so happy I rushed to go see this exhibition before flying out the next day. They became my midsummer night’s dream. A feverish soft playhouse for me to be in and walk around while I was in the space.

A fusion of a couple elements such as complimentary colours + pastels = (Air and Heat) and
Intention = (the making)

Craft & Curate Workshop🖌🖼🎨📒 by me for @og_education at @octobergallerylondon this Summer ~

In response to the amazing @ogyouthcollective and collaborating groups’ Summer show, I held a craft and making session with a curatorial twist.

A session where you got to make your sketchbooks your own mini gallery of ideas and become the Curator of your world - while also learning what exactly a Curator is.

To begin, I introduced the exhibition and along a tour, the group and I took time to take in the incredible artwork in the space. We learned about how it was put together and what ideas shaped it.

Then after a discussion of our own feelings and thoughts about the pieces that stood out to us, I opened our creative time with asking the group to respond to their chosen stand out work (if they wished) using the sketchbooks I provided.

This was to give people a prompt to get over ‘First page jitters’ and allow space for possibly a really meta response with the curatorial part of the session.

Once making, drawing and sticking time was done, we looked at each others results and shared what we liked about what others had made. This fed the next step, how can we join all the responses into one piece?

We curated a mini show of our work that responded to the maxi show! A show within a show, about the show. The meta element. I believe thinking about work we make and how it can fuse collectively really helped everyone explore their creative skills and their new curation skills too.

Some people may not have known what a Curator was or even heard of them before this session, so this workshop encouraged others to explore the role themselves

Ksenia Dermenzhi’s ‘Invisible Paths’ at @beerslondon this August🐞🌻

How often do you see an Artist online, not stop talking about their work, hope to see it in person someday and a couple months later this comes true.

What a wonderful solo show of Ksenia’s newest imaginations - colourful labyrinths that lead you somewhere inside, outside & undiscovered. The energy in them alone move you along the paths you may not know of, but feel inspired to discover with the same spirited and fervent curiosity I feel from these pieces.

@kseniadermenzhi is a Moldovan artist based in London, whose practice can be described to be true unleashed intuitive abstraction. Swishes, swipes and sways, layered and layered in such a way that the paintings are a symphony, a masterpiece, like a classical music composition, like Chopin.

All the strokes and mark making are all the vibrations it takes to produce a single note, that build a chord, that build a score to thoughts and dreams, that build a movement quite literally, figuratively & almost audibly in some small part of my body.

I described this show as ‘music to my eyes’ instead of ears and I’m sure it brought so much dancing, singing, playful joy to those who came to see it. A synesthesia delight where all senses have blended and burst onto the canvas and into us.

I love that many pieces are titled after things or existences of the external like ‘Open Air’, ‘Whispers of the Wind’, ‘From the Wild’ but really feel deeply internal and seem like landscapes only accessible to the painter. We are blessed to get to peer into such a gorgeous world.

They are incredible and I know I was meant to see it.

Sketchbook tours ~*🖌🖼🎨 I want to bring sketchbooks into so many people’s focus and lives but don’t really show my own

I still dont fully believe I have a drawing practice but I do have a creative one! And How can I want to share the sentiments of “Everyone is an innate creator and capable artist” -
if i’m not also practicing the same free making and celebrating that I would love others to explore. We dont have to have a specific practice or EVER get to a place where we define or see ourselves as illustrators, designers or sculptors etc.

We can just a person making some stuff & having a fun time doing it :)

I hope you’re all using your sketchbooks and if not, next time we will open them together x

We can just a person making some stuff & having a fun time doing it :)

I hope you’re all using your sketchbooks and if not, next time we will open them together x
