1st May take a holiday! After the release of ‘London Calling’ a group of fans followed @the_clash from city to city, hoping to convince the band to play a revolutionary May Day benefit. Although Joe eventually declined, he heard the fans out, and taped “1st May take a holiday” to his Fender Esquire guitar for the band’s US TV debut on @abc’s cult comedy sketch show ‘Fridays’ in 1980.
