Always good catching up backstage with legendary Hi Rhythm bassist Leroy “Flick” Hodges. Flick, alongside his brothers Charles and Teenie Hodges, Archie Turner, and Howard Grimes, helped build the unmistakable groove behind Al Green and so many of the classic records that came out of Royal Studios and Hi Records in the 1970s.

Appreciate him always taking the time to sit down and kick it with me for a bit.

Frayser Boy pulled out his Academy Award onstage.

Back in 2006, he, DJ Paul, and Juicy J won Best Original Song for “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp” from Hustle & Flow.

At Riverbeat, during our Memphis Rap OGz set, he shocked the crowd — and all of us onstage — with the real trophy in hand.
