Featured in the auction is a striking bronze by Dave McGary (1958–2013), the renowned American sculptor known for his hyperrealistic portrayals of Native American figures - each grounded in real historical individuals. Raised on a Wyoming cattle ranch, McGary began his artistic path early, later studying human anatomy and bronze casting in Italy before joining a Santa Fe foundry. It was there that a close friendship with a Sioux artist deepened his lifelong commitment to depicting Native American histories.

His sculpture of Kangi Yatapi, the Crow King, is Lot 75 in our upcoming auction. Kangi Yatapi was a Hunkpapa Sioux war chief during the Battle of Little Big Horn. He is best remembered for leading eighty warriors on the southern assault of General Custer, allowing Crazy Horse and Gall to surround the 7th Cavalry.
