In 2024, I decided to totally rework my live set, essentially removing all pre-determined structure, and in doing so I made it way more exploratory and improvisational and, frankly, vital than it was before. It was a big step towards becoming the kind of live act that I want to be.
Thinking of a live set as a creative playground rather than as a linear performance makes it absolutely essential to stay in the moment onstage - without my active participation, the music immediately stagnates. That sort of approach to performance makes autopilot near impossible, which feels really…psychologically healthy.
There’s still room to grow and improve on the concept, of course, and I’ll restart the journey once I have some more shows on the calendar. Hopefully, that means 2025.
Instead of breaking down my latest single, I thought we could
check out the process of writing it by looking at all of my save-as files and seeing how it all came together.

Today is release day for me, and it’s gonna be the last one for a little while. After not releasing new Taut music since 2022, I’ve released two EPs this year, and that feels pretty good. I’m definitely proud of this batch of tunes. THANK YOU for sticking around here while I incessantly promote my self on this platform. OP, the track you’re hearing here, is out now, and I’ve got one final track coming out these year. But after that, I’ll have to to go back in the shed and make more new Taut music.

Released a new track yesterday. For most of these releases I’ve been doing little breakdown videos and get into some aspect of the inner workings of the music, but I’ve gotten kind of tired of that. I suspect maybe you have too.
I know that abstract visualizers like this are bound to get less engagement, but eff it, that’s what im having fun with at the moment
