My short story “Tank” is up today in @joylandpublishing! Here are some things I think it’s about: mercy and punishment, the limitation of will, appraisals, contempt, love, containment, fervor, echolocation, what we accept, what we refuse, and–crucially–a cloud. Hm! Anything else?

I’ve been (intrepidly…) writing this for a year, and countless people have been supremely helpful in the process: namely, the whole team at Joyland, @stephanienjeriwambugu, who provided brilliant edits, @milk_walls, my perennial editor, and many genius writers in my mfa! The first draft was written during a boiling hot seventeen-day residency in rural Portugal last summer, generously funded by the 2024 Thesis Award. Thank you, Messejana.
