Tender lovers of the earth,
Turn us back into the dirt.
.
.
.
Fun drive to the Delta Junction area with the crew, back at the start of this month. Went down to go birding/wildlife watching, and saw some eagles, hawks, buffalo, and some moose. Dug around and found some caribou and fox bones too which was neat :)

Dleł Taaneets for @voguemagazine 🏔️🏡

Everything about the village made me who I am 🪶✨

Such a big thank you to Brittany and I’s village of Dleł Taaneets (Rampart, Alaska) for welcoming us all in and accommodating us for this shoot.

From my cousin Floyd for being our lead producer/guide and giving us rides everywhere, to my Aunty Mary for the village Airbnb and giving the crew a place to stay, and Michelle Woods for renting us a village truck. Such a huge thank you as well to my Aunty Doll and Uncle Milton and the rest of the village council for organizing a community dinner to welcome the crew in— they loved it so much. A big thank you to cousins Yvonne Woods and Natalie Newman for helping out so much during the shoot, especially so on the final shoot on the boat (which was definitely the most complicated lol). The biggest shoutout to my mom as well, for being the biggest supporter and making so many of the logistics/connections work behind the scenes. A huge thank you to Chief/uncle Mike Wiehl as well for giving this project your blessing. The way our village came together and rallied to make this happen was so inspiring.

I’ve always felt there’s something special about going home and the feeling this place evokes. You can say maybe it’s because of the connection I have to it from growing up here; but I think there’s truly something magical about this land.

All of the love we felt on this trip, all of the joy, the laughter— the magic. This is what Rampart is.

Tokala for @voguemagazine 🩶🪶

Organizers: Brittany Woods-Orrison and Rodney Evans

Wanted to make these next couple posts just to give out extended thank you’s to everyone who made this project happen.

Such a huge thank you to our amazing crew for making this all happen. @kaylahbrathwaite for all the crazy behind the scenes and logistic work (trust me y’all, getting to the village is HARD lmao), @waterperson1rabbit for working out our grant awards from the shoot. Then of course, our triple threat trio: Marcus our creative director and stylist, Carlos our photographer, and Thómas our landback baddie who did it all! A massive thank you as well to the lovely @anomalous.bee for being such an amazing supporter, plus our official gunslinger, HMUA on the go, chauffeur, and photo assistant. Was such a blessing to meet y’all and connect thru this ❤️✨

I learned so much from these amazing people in just this short time we spent together. To Carlos, who’s made me excited to take photos again and to keep making art, and with all the right questions really made me rethink who we are as a people and why we do the things we do; to Marcus, who’s made me so excited about fashion again, then also taught me so much determination and to never give up on telling the stories I have to share; and to Thómas, who taught me to always be wholly myself, to never sell myself short, and to always believe in who I am. I love these three so much and I’m so eternally grateful to have been connected with them thru this project 🥺❤️

Rampart wouldn’t be what it is without its people, and from now on the crew will forever be Dleł Te Hʉt’anee— Rampart people.

It’s out and we did it y’all. We brought Vogue to the village. 🤎🪶✨

This shoot and this opportunity was such a blessing, and I have so many gratitudes to give. This was truly a community effort.

Such a big thank you to Brittany and I’s village of Dleł Taaneets for doing the most to accommodate and welcome everyone in. The way our community came together and rallied to make this happen was so inspiring.

The hospitality we were shown throughout the trip was next level and I was reminded of just how much love this village has. Everyone absolutely adored our little crew and they fit right in. I felt so much joy watching everyone get excited to talk with them and share all of our stories and to hear theirs. We even got to give the crew the whole food tour of Rampart meals— one night we had salmon, the next night moose ribs, and then we had black duck soup with the iconic pilot bread crackers and jarred fish at the end of our shoot. Such a big thank you to everyone who cooked for us and kept us going; we needed it, especially after the 18 hour shoot day lol.

Such a huge thank you to our star studded crew as well for making this all happen. Kaylah, Ce Totchli, Bianca, and of course Marcus, Carlos and Thómas—I love y’all so much and am forever indebted to you for making this happen!

From the 18 hour shoot day, to the all nighter we pulled hanging out and telling stories, I’ll never forget this trip. All the connections made, all the stories told, and all the love shared. This is what makes this land and my home so special; this is what Rampart is supposed to be.
