A little news 👀📖 Ornament is not a crime.
It’s a fundamental part of our nature as human beings. So why is it missing from so much of our contemporary design and architecture? I’ve devoted my life pretty much to finding out…..and what I’ve learned so far can - and now will!! - fill a book.

I’m so excited to finally share with you all that I’m working with the Roval Institute of British Architects @riba on a big ol’ book on ornament and architecture!!!

We’ve come a long way from that first video that caused such hoopla but the theory hasn’t changed all that much, it’s just grown!

Thank you to everyone who’s been along for this ride so far. I can’t wait to see everything we’ll continue learning about together❤️

“If Nixon got impeached for Watergate, why is it so hard to get rid of Trump?” Well that’s *literally* why Fox News was created. And it’s working, far too well.

Someone recently commented on one of my posts that the “Left/Right is an obnoxious political and mediatic framing and should be abandoned by anyone trying to think seriously about politics.” Sure, we can talk all day about how there are crappy rich people on both sides. But this is a willfully ignorant way to approach the reality we face: that Nixon’s advisor, Roger Ailes, literally created Fox with Rupert Murdoch so that they could introduce a right-wing channel to TV. That is, by changing the facts to fit their narrative. And the f*scism that has taken hold with a second Trump administration (as well as the Democratic Party’s losing strategy of desperately trying to move more to the right themselves) is the results.

I’m legitimately so proud I get partner with Ground News, where I can gather information like this and look through all the BS. And they’re giving you guys 40% off atttt ✨ groundnews.com/isa ✨(in my stories and bio) so we can all scour the news and keep searching for the truth together 🤝

Thousands of scallops >>> vinyl siding. Also I want to see that knight covered in sea shells 🐚 whose soul needed to be saved, I think? I’m not sure! Anyway, the shell-covered chapel of Ermida da Toxa or the “the chapel of San Sebastián” (it’s known by many names) is covered in the bones of a creature that is very plentiful here in northern Spain, but is also a mystical religious symbol….I’m making it my business to visit one day. And also, to begin a campaign for shell siding everywhere!🤣

I didn’t expect the Cranberries @thecranberries to make an appearance in Banda La Poblanita and Danza Tonantzin’s performance at the Mummers Museum’s@mummersmuseum “Festival of Many Colors,” especially accompanied by traditional dancers fromthe Huejotzingo Carnival in the full Zacapoaxtlas get up 😱

This cultural and intercultural celebration (which I think is the biggest step the Mummers as a whole, who are associated with a checkered history of racism, have made towards building community and understanding between them and non-white Philadelphians) is particularly meaningful at this moment: it’s the second year in a row that organizers have cancelled the Philadelphia Carnaval de Puebla, the East Coast’s largest Cinco de Mayo festival, which typically draws 15,000 participants, due to fears that it will targeted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This was a chance for some of that community to express themselves when they couldn’t on that day.

For more info about what this event was (because there’s a lot of background and a lot ofdetails!) see the thing I wrote for @broadstreview ❤️

I’ve been dreaming of the @jmkac show, “A Beautiful Experience: The Midwest Grotto” (and the work there by artist @stephaniehshih ) since I saw it when it first opened❤️ I wish I could see it for a third time before it closes on the 10th!! What a huge accomplishment and a truly powerful exhibition by the Kohler, once again ❤️

What if our desire to touch the art…actually isn’t such a bad thing? Sure, it’s super annoying when people do it when they’re not supposed to. But it’s a natural human urge, to interact and love the art we see. Whay if we changed the way we think about art, as something that not only can be touched, but SHOULD be touched?

I absolutely love all of these things that many Italian museums have been doing (for way longer than you’d think) to allow people who are blind or have challenges with sight interact with not just art, but architecture as well! It doesn’t just help them, but everyone learn more and benefit from art.

This is why I was up at 5am yesterday 🥹 Happy May Happy May! Also, this video contains very folky ✨folk history✨ - no cited sources here y’all, more like stories told at dance practices for and May Days upon decades. The original of Morris dancing are very contested!

The Kingsessing Morris Dancers have been doing their thing for 49 years here in Philadelphia, and they’ve been joined by a younger and just as wonderful troupe, the @renegademorris Renegade Morris Dancers!

For the very very important labor aspect of May Day, I’ll refer you to @ladyizdihar ‘s perfect reel yesterday.

Unite workers of the world, and Happy May!
