Back to school and I've written a feature for The Guardian about taking my little twinnies to festivals this summer as a single parent. It feels daunting planning big things like these but I reckon my background in producing and improvising my way through life have set me up well for the task in hand. As I say in the piece, the most important thing to bring with you is the right mindset.
It takes a village to raise a child and a festival is where you see villages working in the best ways. I had some wonderful plus ones who made all the experiences so much fun and the babies loved it. Thanks to everyone who sorted us out along the way @benbthomas

It’s Mother’s Day and I’ve been working on some poems and keeping them in jars. Today I wanted to release one.
I read Audre Lorde say that poetry was the most accessible art form that one could write on a napkin between shifts, and I started writing beneath breastfeeding babies.
This one is for my son, who I hope will grow up in a better world than the one we are currently in. Some intentions and prayers - I’ve got one for my daughter that I’ll share another day. 🩷🩷

I met Bea 15 years ago when I was teaching in Colombia. The woman is a force of nature and I love her dearly. Over the years we have managed to stay in touch and connected and this is one of my most treasured friendships. I was delighted to have her come and visit the brood this weekend, to really catch up in the flesh and exchange stories.
We all need amazing women in our lives who remind us what this whole thing called life is really all about. The men may have changed, they may even stay the same, but these are the loves that really nourish us ❤️❤️❤️

Lisbon is a place I've been to for work and play in a previous life, but travelling with miniature humans gives you a new perspective on literally everything. We forwent the many steps of the city and hit up the aquarium, science museum and spent hours on the beach - home from home.
My mum is an educator and i spent several years teaching but I didn't fully appreciate how much I'd love this job of teaching and learning with small humans. It's real work, in every sense, and it's magic. Alhamdulillah. ✨️✨️

I have loved this book and paused to tell everyone around me about the facts and stories peppered in women’s history that have prevailed and shaped the way we look at the role of women. Like how they used to think that a man’s seed held the foetus and a woman just provided blood, making her simply a vessel or greenhouse for a man’s child. The link between the patriarchy and empire and the history of controlling women and their bodies is so important to read about and this writing is really accessible and thought provoking.
