These are the conversations I wish I could have had 8 years ago when I was a 19 year old kid trying to find my way in the music industry. I STRUGGLED to find my way in a space full of gatekeepers who never seemed to reach back and help smaller artists.
I remember reaching out to my favorite artists at the time. Most of them didn’t even have many followers, but my messages were still left on read. All I wanted to do was pick someone’s brain and ask them questions so that I could have an idea of what to expect and how to move.
Looking back, I don’t hold it against them because I understand that it was never their obligation to help artists like me who were just starting out. And I can honestly say that, as I became more talented, people started to offer more and more insight.
But I don’t feel like I should have had to prove that I was worth helping.
Now I’m in a position where I have 8 years of wins and (more importantly) LOSSES to pull from and I want to be the person that I needed when I was first starting out as an artist.
I care about the PERSON first - the ART comes second. I want to help people detach from what’s holding them back, and it all starts with conversations like this.
