Shane's campervan is called Julie. It's named after his late sister.

When she passed away, Shane made a decision. Her death wouldn't be an ending — it would be the push he needed to live the life he dreamed. He closed his studio, packed up a vintage VW campervan with an easel and a unicycle, and started travelling to paint the places that moved him most.

That decision is what brought him here — to one of the most extraordinary landscapes in Europe, with a blank canvas and a three-hour deadline. This is the story behind the man with the brush @shanerecordpaintings

Update on Greece and EES: biometric checks have NOT been reactivated for British travellers.

Reports circulating this weekend suggested Greece had switched EES checks back on. We've confirmed with the FCDO that this is not the case — the Greek authorities have clarified the position directly and nothing has changed.

Greece therefore remains the best option for an EES-free trip for now.

Edinburgh Airport drop-off fees have jumped to £8.50 — and that's just for 10 minutes.

It's the latest hike in a brutal 2026 for Scottish travellers, with Glasgow already up to £7 and Stansted now hitting £10 (plus a £28 charge if you linger past 15 minutes).
Here's the bit airports don't shout about: you can still drop off for free at Edinburgh. The Long Stay car park has a free zone — it's a 10–12 minute walk to the terminal, fine if you're not lugging a wardrobe.

And if you're picking someone up? Park properly. Once you factor in the fines (£100 at some airports for non-payment), pre-booking parking often works out cheaper than racing the forecourt clock. Our customers saved an average of £125 last year doing exactly that.

We set professional artist @shanerecordpaintingsa challenge. Three hours. One blank canvas. One of the most famous views in the world. No prep, no safety net — just plein air painting against the clock.

Most outdoor painters work small to buy themselves time. Shane does the opposite. He paints big and fast, because when you're working in natural light, every minute matters. The conditions are always shifting. You have to commit and trust your instincts from the very first brushstroke.
