Sustainability was central to the design of the @universityofhouston Auxiliary Retail Center, part of the larger Hub project, creating a student-focused dining and social destination built for long-term impact. Designed with exposed mass timber, the facility enhances campus amenities while prioritizing environmental responsibility through energy efficiency, water conservation, and sustainable material selection, with a target of LEED Silver certification.
Henderson Engineers supported the project through advanced clash detection modeling to carefully coordinate systems and minimize disruptions to the mass-timber structure, preserving both the building’s aesthetic and performance. By limiting structural openings to only essential fire protection piping, our team helped protect the integrity of the timber design while streamlining future maintenance and supporting long-term operational efficiency.
