In class, we’ll cover:
Warm-ups for climbing prep
Assess weaknesses
Work on Technical skills
Work on exercises you’ll need for improvement
Post climbing cool down
When the person you share your life with has cancer. You change just about everything in life.
I haven’t been posting much recently, not because I haven’t wanted to. I have needed to take care of myself and my family before I can teach the all.
I hope to lead by example, and what kind of an example would I be setting if I put posting first?
When things get hardI don’t stop working on myself and the relationships closest to me. These are the most important.
I have made the mistake of doing this the opposite way and it didn’t go well.
Now we are at a crossroads with Andrea’s health. We both continue to believe and do everything to help her heal.
It has been a long journey and I am so grateful for the many that have reached out, contributed, and stuck with us through the hard times.
It has really changed my life for the better.

You set the rules and can show them who to be in the world

To keep your shoulders strong give yourself some daily movement
No this isn’t the only thing you can do
But it’s a start to making your shoulders strong for what you’re doing to throw at them
Problem solving is one of the best attributes of climbing
I have totally tried to force a move to work and kept falling
All it took was not repeating the same mistake
Sometimes it’s something minor like pulling from a specific direction
Other times it’s a big change
Listening to those mistakes is the key
That’s why admitting you were wrong or that there is a different way is important.

Climbing isn’t mechanical it is mental
Yes, you need to work out different body positions
And tell your body to fire them at specific times
But you also need your brain to believe you can
You need to get into a flow
What we forget is that most of this is not mechanical
Trust me as a dad with very limited time to climb
I can say that I spend less time climbing and more time sending
It’s not because I don’t want to climb more,
But because I don’t have as much time.
With the time I do have I utilize my mental an emotional states with the steps in the video.
It’s not just about firing your heal to activate your gastroc and hamstring at the right time.
We are much more than muscles in a body

Do you use your lower body well on the wall?
When we watch monkeys climb they literally use their legs like their arms.
The stronger climbers do the same.
This is basically using your foot to push with your toe vs pull with it.
Such a simple move, but I don’t see everyone use it.

Like traversing the wall this drill is a fun one to build endurance.
I like to go from V0-V4, but the range depends on how pumped you are.
You want a little pump but not more than 70%
This is one of my favorite ways to do all the boulder problems quickly especially since I only have an hour or so to climb.
I do 1-2 rounds of this warm up before I start working on my project.
Down climbing usually adds another layer to this as well.
Get in as deep as you can 😜
But seriously, don’t pull from the tippy toe pull from the center of your foot as much as you can.
It sounds obvious but I see this mistake often

Yes, even pressing into an L-sit is very useful
This is a great way to work on your compression core strength off the wall
