Youth Curfew Zones are about protecting property not people. The youth need safe spaces and resources.Ft. Staton have had youth gatherings for 3 weeks straight. I am not saying that youth who are allegedly breaking the law should not be held accountable, I am stating youth have no where to go on the weekend. The youth express to me they enjoy hanging out vibing together. Please share some solutions on what can we do so that the youth don’t have to meet up in the 100’s with nothing to do.#teengatherings #YouthCurfew #WashingtonDC #ResourcesNotCops

Community Takeover - Sweet Tooth Cafe & Cakes
Come out throughout the day to support this Black Business in Ward 8. Show up to co-work, buy a sweet for your neighbor, or get some coffee or tea. This Halal bakery has been a local gem in Anacostia and we want to show financial support as they are at risk of going out of business.
Even if you cannot stop by on Monday, consider stopping by at any other time.
🗓️ Monday, May 25
Sweet Tooth Cafe & Cakes
2323 Martin Luther King Jr Ave
⏰ 9am - 2pm.

We are dealing with tactics by our local government and the federal government to expand punishment of youth in DC.
This is why we fight so hard against curfew.

Curfews are as old as racism itself and there’s no proof they work. As this strategy continues to take headlines, here’s seven things to know about their history and impact.

DC Black Pride is more than a weekend — it’s history, resistance, joy, and community. 🖤🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
As we step into another year of celebration, we’re looking back at the moments that continue to shape us: the dancing, the organizing, the love, the laughter, and the freedom to exist boldly together.
To our Black queer and trans community — past, present, and future — we celebrate you always. See y’all this weekend. ✨

Every voter in DC should be able to participate in the June primary safely. But at a time when DC is under military occupation and the federal administration is threatening surges of enforcement, it’s going to be up to us to make sure all voters in DC are able to exercise our rights this June.
To make this possible, @lawyerscomm @advancementproject @harrietsdreams @washingtoninterfaithnetwork and Free DC are coming together to form the DC #ElectionProtection Coalition, a nonpartisan effort to assist and protect voters throughout election season.
Voters in DC can call the nonpartisan Election Protection hotline 866-OUR-VOTE if you encounter any challenges when voting.
— Election Protection Field Volunteers will be present outside voting locations to assist voters who might have questions or resolving issues as they evolve.
— And Election Protection trainings on June 8 and 9 will help everyone in DC understand what's involved in Election Protection and how community members can be part of protecting voters this year. These trainings are required for Field Volunteers but open to everyone.
Sign up to be an Election Protection Volunteer or attend the upcoming trainings at bit.ly/election-protection-dc (link in bio)
Election Protection ( @866ourvote) is the nation's largest nonpartisan voter protection effort. Composed of over 300 local, state, and national partner organizations across the country, Election Protection works year-round to protect voters and our fair and democratic elections.

Our Program Director @frankieccentric_ is a proud third generation Washingtonian who grew up all over DC ❤️🤍
“Being a DC native these days is like finding a unicorn in the city. We are proud, a lil bougie but still have a grit about us.” — Frankie
Frankie describes being from DC as bushels of crabs with family and friends once the weather breaks, knowing the struggle for freedom and resilience, and understanding what it means to still be here as the city continues to change around us.
One of Frankie’s favorite neighborhood memories comes from living right down the block from Malcolm X Park back when the fountains still ran.
“I remember the ice cream truck singing tunes as it turned the corner and all the kids were ready to sprint into action. My grandma always had a few dollars to give me for a treat. When it got too hot in the summer, an uncle from the neighborhood would use a wrench to turn on the fire hydrant and we would play and dance and splash until our hearts content.”
SHE FROM DC: NOT NEW HERE.

“Being a DC native means that our existence is inherently political. To be a DC native and still be able to remain in DC is an incredible privilege and a blessing.” — Jillian
For many Black Washingtonians, surviving displacement in a city we’ve called home for generations is not accidental. It’s tied to family, sacrifice, and deep community roots.
Jillian’s favorite DC summer memory was going to Caribbean Fest on Georgia Ave before gentrification reshaped the neighborhood.
“It marked the true beginning of a DC summer. Always right after school ended and right before SYEP started.”

Our Ida outreach coordinator Ketaa is a proud Ward 8 native now raising her three boys in the same community she grew up in ❤️🤍
When asked what instantly tells her someone isn’t from DC, Ketaa said:
“Tell me the White House is in Virginia 🤣🤣”
And if you know, you know.
Ketaa also remembers the summers when kids would run through opened fire hydrants to cool off during the heat — a DC childhood memory that still lives in her heart.
SHE FROM DC: BORN & RAISED.
