Easier days for this costume shop means organization and laundry for last week’s Youth Ballet Memphis outreach performances.

We are also reorganizing the storage.

We moved from our previous building with new needs in mind and the distribution plan made sense. Now almost 10 years later, we are evolving and changing how we see and how we use our costume stock.
One of my goals since I became the costume director here is to make sure that everyone who needs to find something here, can find it.
We all learned when our dear Bruce passed that not everyone knew things regarding the costume storage, not because a lack of documentation, but because everything was in paper or in a computer and not many people knew where to look for the correct place to find what they needed…. and also because I wasn’t here to help.
I want to make this storage the best and easiest to navigate as possible, we are trying to make things that are obvious to me obvious to everyone.

I started my day with very clean and wet hands and ended the day with very black fingers after shifting so many hangers.

I love organizing!!! ✨I love shifting energy too!✨

We in Memphis are so fortunate to have a Drycleaning company that picks up and drops off our Drycleaning.
I found Bensingers Cleaners after the pandemic when the Drycleaning company we used to use sadly went out of business and I had to reached out to all my theatre, dance and opera costumes shops friends to ask where they were sending their costumes.

Did you know that many times you can hand-wash garments and line dry instead of sending them to thedrycleaning. I do that only if I have the time, or some times when I really need to save money or like when I realize no drycleaning company in town wants to take pleated garments 🫤

It is always so good to have Jim Fuqua from @fuquasewing servicing our machines in the shop!
✨But today was specially wonderful! ✨

Today I realized that he had a piece of stretch fabric and had sewn zigzag and straight stitch on our Industrial Singers…
I don’t exactly remember what I say or what he said but then I realized that he was telling me that he wanted to check both stitches and that is when my brain 🤯 in a wonderful way!!!🥰

I can’t really tell how this conversation didn’t happen before or how I missed that he has done that..

When Bruce and I purchased these two machines in a business that no longer exists(no need to mention names), they told us that these Singers would only sew straight stitch. But today after more than 15 years I learned that they do zigzag also.🥳🥳🥳

You have no idea how happy this makes me!!!🙏🏽

This is a little bit of Interiorworks 2026. I tried to get all the pieces but couldn’t due to some backstage costume changes.

The company dancers created a beautiful program of 11 pieces choreographed by them, and put together with the support of Ballet Memphis production team @kgreenesm @sherichull @moeticgette and myself.

This is the official closing of this season!!! I couldn’t be happier, fulfilled and relieved!

This week I celebrated my 4 year anniversary of coming back to my Ballet Memphis family as the costume director, the birth of my son and Mother’s Day with my mom and my life support, my family!

This week is being very special! Now I am going to keep celebrating by slowing down a little.

I managed to do a little shoe inventory in between dress rehearsals and shows for Interiorworks.
I LOVE our double sided shoe storage box in wheels for easy access and organizing.

Side 1 is all women, side 2 is all men plus some women that doesn’t fit on the other side.
I am not finished with this project yet, but almost 😉

Trying to be the best shoe manager I can be.

But when it comes to pointe shoes I let the best people I know and trust help and guide my dancers because who better than my pointe shoe vendors and pointe shoe specialist to show them the options they got. Nowadays the possibilities and different brands and types of shoes are endless, which can also go wrong with a dancer that keeps looking for a unicorn shoe (thankfully none of my ladies are like that)

This past couple of week have been a continuous check up with each dancer to make sure we are all set on changes or likes on their shoes for the future.

I am so grateful for the communication and support from all our vendors and specialists to make sure we take the necessary steps to help the process, because finding pointe shoes that make you happy is so worth the time and effort. It might take weeks, months and years, because every dancer has different kind of issues they are dealing with.
