“Starless” by @yourspiritdies is finally out. This music video means so much to me on so many levels. This is our 8th time working together on a music video. 8 times is insane to me. This band feels like family to me, and I know that this team of people within and behind this band are some of the most driven and talented people I’ve had the pleasure of working with. Above you’ll find BTS photos from the shoot, taken by none other than @flashed_by_tuna. His dedication to the craft and the YSD team is unparalleled, and he truly is the 6th member of YSD. He even contributed ideas to the videos and snagged that additional direction credit; can’t sing Tuna’s praises enough.
I met half of the band in Greenville, and we drove the 8+ hours to Pittsburgh in their van, packed with all of our equipment including every piece of gear I owned. I wanted to be able to do ANYTHING for this within my means, so I brought it all. Our drive consisted of a few Sheetz visits, lots of music video talk, and some reminiscing on the past. We stayed in a Harry Potter-themed AirBnB (I was in Ravenclaw room) and just chopped it up in between shooting sessions, watching dumb 80s horrors and music videos together. It truly felt like a vacation for me instead of work.
The brotherhood I felt on this trip was unlike anything I’ve felt before from a band; once again, YSD opened their doors to me and made me feel like the 7th member of the band (counting Tuna of course 🐟). We shot two videos over the course of 5 days, filming mostly at @preservingconcerts. The owner, AJ, was a godsend for us, and gave us more freedom than we probably should have had. Shoutout AJ for real.
