I don’t think I would have ever posted something as unrefined, imperfect, or silly as this if I were still dancing professionally.
I think this distance-as well as the inspiring example of one of my close friends (you know who you are)-has given me the confidence to take things less seriously and give myself permission to be imperfect, to get off the music, and to just have fun (naturally, it’s harder to do this when your identity is wrapped in how good of a dancer you are).
I can only aspire to take this newfound lesson with me into my current endeavors, because the daily, necessary failures still weigh more heavily on me than I’d like. For now I’m happy to just share the lesson in its current form.
At the end of the day, dancing is just dancing… it’s a place where I found joy for more than 15 years and where, clearly, I still do.
May this inspire you to boogie and to sometimes take things less seriously.
