Today was my joyous return to parkrun, marking a year since I started my miracle medication (Low Dose Naltrexone) which has allowed me to slowly rebuild my body from being bedbound and destroyed from Long Covid for nearly two years.

I had friends running beside me to chat to, turning it into a true celebration! No thoughts about time or placement, just loving the feeling of running in a group again. We even managed a sprint finish!

Make no mistake, this is no “bouncing back” - this is the result of months and months of gruelling daily physio, extremely hard work, and years of experience rebuilding my body from near-death. Too many times to count. I am also still not 100%. But none of this would’ve been possible without the medication that addressed the root cause of my Long Covid (there are many different types, mine was almost certainly immune-based. LDN doesn’t work for everyone.) But before the LDN, I couldn’t even stretch for 10min a day, walk for 5min, or even sit upright for 15min.

I wanted to sew a shirt to raise awareness of Long Covid in runners - because your fitness WILL. NOT. SAVE. YOU. There are whole support groups full of endurance athletes with LC, research studies on Olympic athletes and US Marines with LC… and your chances of LC increase with every single infection.

I used another old Burda magazine pattern for these, too, from the Nov 2024 issue. I love the silhouette of these with the deep faced hem and shifted side seams, and I customised it further by omitting the back darts and inserting elastic into the back waistband too! ⁠

Today I got my first tattoo, something I’ve specifically wanted for 3-4 years now but didn’t think I’d be well enough to do.

I’m so grateful to have had @elrosestorm recommended to me by a friend because she didn’t shy away from my being immunocompromised or her needing wearing a mask or ensuring we’d be the only ones in the studio. She’s such a genuinely lovely person to chat with and was so kind and patient with this tattoo virgin!

I actually found the whole experience pretty relaxing, and I swear I’ve had sunburns and paper cuts that hurt more?! 🤭

For me, the words “…But I have a capacity for enduring.” have such deep meaning, and it’s something I want to celebrate and remind myself of every single day, whether that’s through life, illness, running, or cycling. I have endured, and I will endure.

Also I owe a big thank you to Rolin, Hannah, and the other @amcsannerice writers for articulating something that spoke to me so deeply I wanted it forever inked into my skin. 🖤

Today I got my first tattoo, something I’ve specifically wanted for 3-4 years now but didn’t think I’d be well enough to do.
