Tori Amos’s new album In Times of Dragons feels less like fantasy and more like a political fever dream about the current state of America. What fascinates me is how openly apocalyptic and direct she has become. The dragons, dictators and “lizard demons” don’t really function as fantasy creatures, but as distorted metaphors for authoritarianism, paranoia, conspiracy culture, oligarchy and the slow erosion of democracy from within. A lot of critics seem divided exactly over this directness. So instead of retreating into nostalgia, Tori seems to grow angrier, stranger and more politically urgent with age. Even her dark joke about probably needing “fashion advice for potential incarceration” soon captures the bizarre overlap of fear, spectacle, lifestyle culture and political dread. The whole album feels like an artist trying to remain emotionally and imaginatively alive while watching democracy mutate into something darker in real time.

Falk Richters Rechercheprojekt IN MY ROOM entspinnt aus dem intimen Raum eines Sohns und Autors ein vielschichtiges Geflecht aus Erinnerungen, Bildern und Stimmen und verwebt biografische Erfahrungen mit gesellschaftlichen Erzählungen. Es sind Momentaufnahmen von Söhnen, die sich an ihre Väter, an Familienrituale, Alltagsgeschichten und gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen erinnern. In My Room ist ein autofiktionaler Selbstversuch, in die unergründete Blackbox, die Väter hinterlassen haben, einzutauchen auf der Suche nach den Spuren der Väter im eigenen Leben.

Falk Richter’s In My Room is a research project that unfolds a multilayered web of memories, images and voices from the personal space of a son and author, weaving biographical experiences with social narratives into a panorama of a present become past. It’s made up of snapshots of sons remembering their fathers, family rituals, everyday stories and societal developments. In My Room is a personal autofiction experiment that dives into the unexplored black boxes that fathers leave behind. At the same time, it’s also, an imaginary echo chamber in search of traces of one’s father in one’s own life.

Heute und morgen steht Ursina Lardi wieder als die Komponistin Viola Brahms in meinem Stück BAD KINGDOM an @schaubuehne_berlin auf der Bühne. Bei der Premiere am 11.2.2024 sagte sie folgenden Satz: "Mein Vater hat (...) all sein Geld kurz vor Ausbruch des Krieges in Rheinmetallaktien investiert
und der Wert hat sich seitdem verzehnfacht von 30,98 Euro pro Aktie Anfang Februar 2022 auf 305,10 Euro pro Aktie im Januar 2024. Unsere Familie hat ziemlich genau aus 500 000 Euro, die mein Vater zur Seite gelegt hatte, dank all der Toten 5 Millionen Euro gemacht". Heute, zwei Jahre später, schrieb mir Ursina: “Guten Morgen Falk, hier das Börsen- Update: Die Rheinmetallaktie hat sich seit unserer Premiere verzweiundfünfzigfacht: Von 30,98 Euro pro Aktie Anfang Februar 2022 auf 1611,50 Euro pro Aktie jetzt, Mitte Februar 2026. Die Familie von Viola Brahms hat also aus den 500000.- Euro, die der Vater zur Seite gelegt hat, auf Kosten all der Toten, gut 26 MILLIONEN Euro gemacht. Liebe Grüße von Ursina.” Das sind erschreckende Zahlen. In nur zwei Jahren schlagen einige Menschen explodierende Gewinne aus Kriegen, während so viele darunter leiden und sich nichts sehnlicher wünschen, als dass sie endlich enden.
