For the first time since 2014, NI has broken the Komplete release cycle❗️

The jump from K15 to K26 marks a shift to annual versioning, bringing the product in line with how major creative software like macOS and Photoshop already operates. The May release window is also new. Previous versions always landed in September or October.

The headline feature is Absynth 6. After being discontinued for years, the semi modular synth returns with a "star map" sound browser built on the open source AudioStellar engine. Sounds are plotted as nodes across a visual constellation, clustered by timbral similarity. It is a genuinely fresh approach to navigating large libraries 🎛️

One trade off in the Standard tier: Ozone has been downgraded from Standard to Elements. The retail price drops accordingly, from $599 to $549.

The sound libraries scale dramatically across tiers. Standard holds 63,000+ sounds with 180+ plugins.

Ultimate jumps to 116,000+ sounds and 280+ plugins, which actually surpasses K13 Collector's Edition.

Collector's Edition pushes past 180,000 sounds and 340+ plugins with 1.6 TB of content.

The biggest leap sits between Standard and Ultimate, especially in cinematic and sound design tools (3 vs 24) and classical instruments (0 vs 10).

We designed Beetle because we kept seeing the same problem 🔍

People spend serious money on a condenser mic or desktop monitors, then balance them on a flimsy plastic stand that wobbles every time they bump the desk.

Beetle is all metal. The cast iron base is 15 by 15 centimetres and weighs nearly a kilo, so it genuinely holds things in place. The pole is thick enough to support speakers up to 4kg, which covers most 4 inch desktop monitors comfortably.

The SU-2 makes one decision that's hard to ignore at this price. SMSL dropped the USB input and put AES/EBU in its place. Seeing that on a £95 box is unusual 🎛️

If you have a Genelec SAM monitor or any active speaker that takes AES, the SU-2 lets you keep the signal digital all the way to the speaker. Same goes for a CD transport with a balanced digital output. AES gives you clock stability and noise rejection over longer cable runs, which matters when your desk isn't right next to your monitors.

Inside is the ES9039Q2M with four OPA1612A op-amps in a symmetric layout. SINAD measures around 123.5dB on XLR. The chassis is 42mm thick and feels heavier than you'd expect for the size.

It won't suit you if you only have a laptop and want USB straight in. For anyone with a digital transport or AES capable monitors already, this is one of the more interesting £95 buys this year.
