One month post op today! 🌷

Feeling so incredibly grateful for my friends and family and insanely dedicated boyfriend who were there for me for ten (10!!) days in the hospital, and the long, painful, very boring weeks that followed. Getting two titanium rods and 28 screws in your back is no joke, and I could not have done it without a village holding me up.

I think I am supposed to say something here about this experience teaching me how strong I am, but the opposite is true: I’ve never felt more fragile or more afraid than I have this last month. The secret, I’m learning, is to just keep going anyway. One foot in front of the other, one more step than yesterday, leaning on your loved ones (literally or figuratively) whenever you need.

I have so much father to go still, but I’m so proud of how far I’ve come and so grateful for everyone who’s helped me. If you’re considering having a spinal fusion and have questions, feel free to reach out! Happy to share thoughts or advice or heating pad recommendations.

An incomplete list of things I will miss about New York:

The energy in the city on the first nice day of spring. The kids sledding in Fort Greene Park after the first snow. Dirty martinis at Congress. Oysters at Grand Army. The halva chocolate chip cookie at Thea. Summer days at Brighton Beach and Coney Island; watching fireworks from a rooftop on Fourth of July. Weekend trips to Philly. The metro north ride up to Dia Beacon. Dia Beacon. Good bagels. Fall. The way nights in the summer never seem to end. Crowded apartment parties and too-long dinner parties and the feeling you get when you first step inside from the cold. The cold. And the smartest, strongest, funniest, messiest, most beautiful group of friends I’ll ever know. Thank you for teaching me to love this place, and for letting me love you ❤️
