Every year during Eurovision season, the internet fills with people explaining why Eurovision is “rubbish,” “political,” “cringe,” or “not real music” while somehow still watching every single second of it. 😂.

Today we have nation full of songwriting and staging experts who are giving out career limiting advice. It’s not that it’s a shock, it’s always the same every year, we came second one year and that wasn’t enough either! We woz robbed!Everyone hates us, blah blah blah blah blah.

It’s just boring and the people who comment the hardest just don’t have anything constructive to say!

The thing is, I personally think boxing looks like two people voluntarily concussing each other for entertainment, dressage is basically posh horse walking, and football stopped being my thing years ago… but I still respect the people who dedicate their lives to it.

What people don’t see with Eurovision is the months (sometimes years) of work behind three minutes on stage. The artists, writers, producers, dancers, stylists, delegations, tech crews, vocal coaches, staging teams… everyone is working themselves into the ground trying to create something memorable.

And honestly? The delegations are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.
Too safe? Boring.
Too weird? Embarrassing.
Too polished? Manufactured.
Too raw? Amateur.

The British public especially seem to love Eurovision but only when we’re winning. 😅

What happened to just backing people for having the courage to get up there in front of 160 million viewers and give it absolutely everything?

You don’t have to like every song. That’s the whole point. But maybe respect the effort before shouting “nul points” or all the other comments I’m seeing today from the sofa with a glass of Pinot in your hand. 🍷

Come on people, I would really love to see you get up and do it 😂🎶🎤🎵

I have just had the best lunch with @joebennettmusicology in a gorgeous cafe in Vienna.I could have sat talking with him for the rest of the weekend.Joe is probably the reason I am a songwriter and I am so grateful to him and his insights over the years.I always knew he had a love of Eurovision, having live blogged it for many years, but I didn’t know how much I would come to love it too.

It’s been so good catching up.Thank you Joe, looking forward to finishing our song and one day being in the green room together. There you go, I’ve said it out loud 😂 xxx

We had the most amazing morning, up with the sun and now 14000 steps later, sitting with a mint and lemon smoothie watching the sun go down.If you haven’t been to Giza and Cairo, then you are missing a treat, the clash of old and new. The crazy streets and big hearts, it’s overwhelming at times but it just makes me love Egypt more. ❤️
