Last week, EIT Manufacturing joined founders, investors and policymakers in Brussels for the @womentecheu Final Event, celebrating the impact of one of Europe’s key initiatives supporting women in deep tech.

As coordinator and project partner, EIT Manufacturing helped bring together the @womentecheu community to reflect on the programme’s achievements and the future of women-led innovation in Europe.

The results from the programme show clear impact:

• Startups from the first three cohorts collectively raised over €53.8 million in private funding
• 230 patents filed by participating companies
• Women-led applicants to the European Innovation Council (EIC) increasing from 8% to 30%
• Participating founders generating a six-times return on investment

These figures show that supporting women founders is not an inclusion strategy but rather a competitiveness and innovation strategy.

Throughout the event, speakers also addressed the structural barriers that still affect access to funding and opportunities in deep tech. One point resonated strongly across discussions: unconscious bias requires conscious solutions.

The Women TechEU programme demonstrates what becomes possible when targeted support, funding and community-building come together. It connects ambitious founders with the tools, networks and visibility needed to scale their innovations.

Recently recognised at the Formes de Luxe Awards 2025, which celebrate innovation and sustainability in packaging design, Woamy is attracting international attention for its pioneering biofoam technology.

Made from cellulose, Woamy’s biofoam is inspired by nature’s efficiency: it mimics the directional strength of wood while being fully bio-based, biodegradable and recyclable.
It can replace conventional plastic foams without altering existing manufacturing processes, making high-performance, circular packaging scalable and practical.

🚀 What if the secret to greener manufacturing lay in folding metal just like paper?

STILFOLD, a Swedish innovator, has turned that question into reality. Their industrial origami process uses robotic arms to curve-fold sheet metal, creating ultra-light, strong structures with fewer parts and a significantly smaller carbon footprint.

From electric motorcycles to wind turbines, STILFOLD is scaling up with AI-driven software that automates folding and boosts manufacturing efficiency.

With support from EIT Manufacturing, including connections and the establishment of the MetaFold Academy, this origami-inspired innovation is now reaching industrial scale across Europe.
