Obhi has been making a lot of marks these last few years both on canvas and in the art world. Unlike most art pieces, his multimedia masterpieces are created with a common theme: tangibility. Using found objects, his own creations, and common mark making materials such as paint and markers, Obhi crafts 3-dimensional works of art. From common bubble wrap to architectural modeling materials, he has learned to apply non traditional mediums to create breathtaking tactile masterpieces. Make sure to check out his magnificent pieces at @obhisworld and keep an eye out for his booth in the First Fridays art alleys.

Had blast shooting these with Obhi last year. Not usually one for fashiony photo shoots , but with some fun lighting we made some images I’m truly proud of!

A little over a year ago @raygunnn_ asked me to fill in for him and shoot the @usmarineband at the Kauffman Center. As someone who grew up playing percussion in school for 9 years, the answer was an enthusiastic and immediate yes. I was granted a media pass and nearly unadulterated access. I met with the leadership before the doors opened and walked around documenting warmups. As the lights dimmed and the audience rose, I quickly realized I am woefully out of shape and the Kauffman Center has far too many stairs. I sprinted from the front of the first floor to the back of the top floor and snuck behind the band to try and capture a centered shot of the hall showing the entire building on their feet as the first notes of the star spangled banner rang out. Keeping with tradition, I was immediately pulled aside as I exited backstage and told that was the one place I wasn’t allowed to go because the cameras used to film the performance could see me there. It wouldn’t be a true Matt Cook experience if I didn’t get into at least a little trouble. All in all, it was a truly beautiful experience and an incredible concert. Thank you to all of our troops past, present and future.

The turnout this weekend for the “Hate America” rally sure had a lot of flags and patriots. The crowds stretched beyond the visual space and the noise at the center was deafening. Cheers, chants, whoops and hollers all rung out. It was all peaceful from what I experienced besides a few brief verbal exchanges between MAGA supporters and protestors. There were a few security guards but the only police I really saw were at the ends of the plaza helping direct traffic.

I can’t imagine what it feels like after 60 years to wake up without your wife by your side. To watch her walk out the door and 20 minutes later ask why she hasn’t visited in a week. It’s hard to watch the goofiest person I’ve ever met cry out of confusion, to see the distress he experiences daily. We go along with incoherent ramblings, we hold his hand and make empty promises. I’ll never hear him tell another story or sit in a living room and watch time pass. Love your family and love them hard. Happy 87th birthday grandpa.

A couple months ago I held a lighting workshop to introduce some of the local motion crew to strobe lights. Had a lot of fun showing everyone all the different lights we have in town and passing the camera around. We tried a lot of different lighting setups and mimicked a few from reference images. All in all, it was a great 6 hours of fun with some great peeps. Here are some of my favorite shots from the day.

@chernobyldogsband might just be the most performative band I’ve ever photographed, certainly the most out of the local bands I’ve seen. They had no problem getting in my face and screaming their hearts out on stage.
