Hello there, this is Bertha. I have been running Earthero Project for a while and thought with the fresh start of the year, I would like to clean up the blog a little.
This blog started off with an agenda to provide first hand unbiased views on eco-related products and services. It is still true to date. I have also been keeping this blog personal and educational based. It’s actually harder than it seems, because the content I write here takes longer to curate, while less fitting to instagram’s algo or general public’s taste. However, I find the internet, especially social media, often misleading. It is difficult to search for quality truthful content when it is now increasingly a commercial playground. So here at Earthero Project, I am keeping it not just a fun and useful blog, but also a community to discuss the goods and bads leading towards a more conscious lifestyle.
Keep reading if you are interested :) So a little about me, I grew up in a traditional family with little to no concerns about the environmental impacts of the things we do and products we buy. The moment where I think I am contributing to damaging the environment, was when I saw the piles of takeaway trash daily at my previous workplace. I am sure we can make a difference, big or small. 2017 was when I began my eco-journey, making myself more aware of the actions I do.
I love nature, and think that by appreciating nature I learn not to take it for granted. I love animals and always encourage everyone to #adoptdontshop. I love cooking a few things and hope to do more this year. I am a flexitarian (because of personal health concerns) and actively trying to reduce meat intake whenever I can. I love exercising and recently got my YTT 200 certificate.
Great to meet you all here, and I am grateful for this community.

Living a more conscious, eco-friendly lifestyle doesn’t have to be complicated! 🌱 I always start by rethinking my daily habits. Before buying something new, I ask myself: Can I repurpose or upcycle something I already have? It’s a chance to get creative! 🎨✨
The global pet toy market is valued at over $10 billion annually, an estimated 634 million dog toys end up in U.S. landfills annually, equating to 40,500 tons of plastic waste. 🗑️ What’s worse, many pet toys are made from non-recyclable plastics, contributing to long-term environmental damage. 🌊
So, it’s the purrrrrfect opportunity to rethink consumption when it comes to pet toys. 🐾 I’ve seen people buy boxes of toys for their pets (no judgment, I’ve been there too 🙈). But here’s the thing: pets LOVE playing with things that smell like you! 🧦💕 I’ve upcycled so many old socks into DIY pet toys (just tie a knot in them—boom, instant fun!). It saves me money and reduces waste. Win-win! 🐶🐱

At its core, sustainability means taking action today without compromising tomorrow. Yes, it’s a BIG word.⚡️
In my work, I often hear clients say, “We don’t have the budget for sustainability.” What they really mean is—they can’t afford to change their business model because they’re in survival mode. And I get it. When times are tough, businesses focus on strategies that bring quick income💰. In that sense, sustainability might feel like a luxury.
But… is that the only way? 🤔 Does sustainability HAVE to be a luxury? What if it’s actually the solution?
On a personal level, sustainability is so much more versatile. It’s about making conscious choices—buying less, buying quality, buying secondhand, buying local. Suddenly, it’s not a luxury—it’s a cost-efficient lifestyle. 💡✨
What do you think? Is sustainability a luxury, or is it something more? Let me know your thoughts below! 👇💬

Have you ever thought about how malls can serve purposes beyond just shopping (or, you know, bathroom breaks😝)?
Here’s a quick vlog of my mall visit:
👕 Donated/recycled some clothes (yes, some malls have donation bins—super convenient!)
👀 Window-shopped trends (shopping isn’t bad when you need something—just shop consciously!)
🗑️ Checked out some recycle bins (spoiler: they’re often misused—let’s do better!)
Got any eco-friendly mall tips? Share them below! 🌱♻️

Had an absolute blast experiencing the 7s in a whole new way with the HK7s Superfan Impact Pass! 🏉✨ Got to go BTS, walk the ground-level of the stadium, tour the tunnel, and even sneak a peek at the teams warming up. Rounded off the day with some tasty treats using my HKD 100 F&B voucher. 🍔🥤
One thing I really love about this pass is the SAF contribution! ✈️ Did you know fan flights alone contribute a massive 96% of the event’s total carbon emissions? 😱 Knowing this pass helps tackle such a big part of the footprint makes it even more special. 🌍💚 and bonus, the Pass also includes a donation to @rugbyforgoodhk 🥰
Oh, and while BYOB isn’t allowed, there are water refill stations all around the stadium and even composting facilities. ♻️ I stuck with the same cup all day—fingers crossed for reusables next time! 🤞

Kids grow out of their clothes faster than you can say ‘another growth spurt!’ 🍼👕 So when I planned my baby’s first trip to Japan this February (hello, snow season ❄️), I knew I needed warmer gear—like a snowsuit. But buying a brand-new one? Nah. Too pricey, and let’s be real, it’d just gather dust in HK after the trip🤣
Enter @retykle , the secondhand kidswear platform that’s a total game-changer for parents! Found the perfect snowsuit in amazing condition, and guess what? You can resell it on their platform when you’re done. Highly recommend for all parents out there! 🌍💚
Btw not an ad, just happy share😆

🌱 Vegan Leather: Is It Really Sustainable? 🌍
Vegan leather is often seen as eco-friendly, but the reality is more complex. While it’s cruelty-free, it’s not always the most sustainable choice. Here’s why:
🔍 Material Matters:
Most vegan leather is made from plastics like PU or PVC, which are non-biodegradable. Plant-based options (like cactus or mushroom leather) are better but often still use synthetic binders.
⏳ Durability Counts:
Plastic-based vegan leather lasts 2-5 years, plant-based up to 10. Compare that to full-grain animal leather, which lasts 30+ years and improves with age.
♻️ Consider Durability for Sustainability:
Products that last decades and can be repaired are more sustainable. Full-grain leather develops a patina and can be restored, while vegan leather often cracks or peels, making repairs difficult.
👜 What About Animal Leather?
When sourced as a by-product of the meat industry or bought second-hand, animal leather can be a more sustainable option. Longer lasting product can reduce the need for frequent replacements and minimizing waste. Second-hand leather also extends the lifecycle of existing products!

🌍 Did you know? Babies don’t need diapers as long as we’ve been led to believe! Disposable diaper companies have shaped our parenting norms to keep us buying more. 😱
👶 In the 1950s, most kids were potty trained by 18 months. Today? The average age is 3 years! That’s double the time in diapers—and double the waste. 🗑️
💡 But here’s the truth: Babies are born with instincts to avoid soiling themselves. Early potty training or elimination communication (EC) is not only possible but also better for the planet 🌱 and your wallet 💸.

2025 has been a whirlwind! With the little one arriving later this year, life’s been a beautiful chaos, and let’s be real—content has taken a backseat. But before the year wraps up, I wanted to share a bit about my journey as a new mom. It’s been tough—physically, mentally, and everything in between—but I’ve been leaning into the small steps I always advocate for. Progress, not perfection, right? Here’s to a brighter, greener 2026. 💚✨
